Is there a definitive answer anywhere for the reasons between power levels of the oilhead range ?


1100GS to 1100S for instance ?

I know someone changed cams - but didn't get the same result ( i think ? )

Is it motronics, pistons, cams or all 3 ?
 
I looked into this for my 1100GS, compression ratio,cams and Motronic seem to be the major bits.
The cost of changing the Motronic put an end to the project on the cost/gains equation.
The injection system is the main restriction when playing with the motor,it's possible to buy the chips to up-grade the system if your mods equate to those made to the bike that the chips were prepared for,but I think a lot of chips would just give you ball-park improvements,rather than fine tuning everything.
I'm awaiting a reply from HPN at the moment on the price of their Bing carburettor/PVL ignition conversion kit as fitted to their Dakar bikes.
I think the BM's great but unfortunately,I like modifying engines and the injections lack of adjustment means most ideas are unworkable.
The conversion to carbs wouldn't be a backward step as the bike is hardly cutting edge in terms of output!
One mod I will be making is to advance the ignition a few degrees and see if the difference can be felt.
