Here comes another stoooooopid question....

Am I correct in thinking that I can hardwire my Garmin 2610 power cable straight to the battery and it won't "leak" power unless my GPS is connected to the cradle?

Or will it drain even with nothing connected?

If it will drain with nothing connected, where is the best place to connect to a switched live?

Please bare in mind that i'm an electrical numpty, so really easy for most of you, is probably about my limit.... easier the better!!!

Any pics would be useful too, ta

thanks peeps :thumb

Tie a knot in the cable when you're not using it so that none of the leccy can escape.

ya funny fecker......

'bout as much use as tits on a fish!!

Hard wire it to your batt, ive had a GPS60CS and 2720 both hardwired and it wont "drain" your batt :thumb (unless the units are fitted and switched on)
Mine is connected to my optimate, which detects any power drain.

cool, coz that was my next question, will my optimate3 detect a drain and tell me i have a faulty battery, just coz of the wiring?

you should be alright, I've never come home to find my floor all covered in electricity leaking from a mains socket left unplugged at home :)

GPS 12V

Hello there you could get a plug from BMW ,a small 12v Plug in about £6.50 to put in in the outlet socket ,think it will be on the left hand side of your bike by the seat a little black flap that will lift up just like our uk 12v plugins but smaller, BUT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION , ther wlll be no drain if the GPS is not plugged in , If you are going to put it on the battery make sure you have a in line fuse . all the best ozz :thumb

If you do hardwire it direct to the battery definitely make sure that there is an inline fuse.

Also when the connector is not in use make sure the metal contacts dont touch anything metal on the bike as this will cause a short.

The only problem with directly wiring to the battery is that the copper pins of the GPS connector are live all the time, this will cause the contacts to oxidise and corrode quicker than they would if they weren't live all the time.
