Hi Folks,

Im looking at making the Starcon install on my wifes F800R tidier and need a bit of help.

Im wanting to use the CAN-bus plug next to the battery to provide switched power for the Starcom, and have purchased a CAN-bus plug from Nippy Normans (edit - it only has two wires).

My question is which terminal in the plug is positive and which is negative?

Cheers

Mines wired directly to the battery, as the starcom doesnt become live until the rider headset is connected anyway.

doesnt help with the connector question though

Hi B, I use the BMW connector every now and then, if its the same one i use its a white connector with 3 yellow wires? Two of which are used the other one is not. Just test your live socket to see which pind turns live and pair it up with your connector, then you can tell which is which! Hope that helps?

Regards

Mick

Its a green one with 2 wires (though it does have BMW moulded into the connector) marked 1 and 2.
I did a search and found a guide on making a power lead for a Zumo using the 3 wire plug, so I think lead 1 will be negative and 2 will be positive.....

Will your method a try later (hopefully the rain will back off.....lol)

Cheers

Mines wired the same and no problems at all. Maybe an idea to wire the Starcom directly to the battery and keep the Canbus plug for some other gadget :thumb

I wired mine direct to the battery then changed my mind and wired it through a Centec fuse box. The latter method caused feedback (according to the very nice chap at Starcom). Reverted to the direct to battery method a voilà! No feedback issues at all. As the previous poster states, the system is designed to be wired direct and only makes itself "live" when the headset is plugged in.

Interesting - on the wifes first F800R, the battery went flat and the only thing we think it could have been was the Starcom, hence the question.

Though, to be honest we have been a bit more careful with the new one and have it on the charger.
