Hi all,

The other morning when I try to start the bike, there was nothing in the battery . Jump started it and all was fine. Starting it up after work was no issue either and has been smooth ever since.

Now I have the following added bits which draws current:

1) autocom.
2) autocom bluetooth dongle.

Both are connected to the same wire that goes to the aux input at the top - so it cuts out after a min or so when switching off the ignition.

I have been running this setup for about two weeks or so now, with no issues. The problem I think came when I use the heated grips as well.

So I guess I have 2 questions here:
1) Does the bike generate enough power to support all my stuff?
2) Is it ok for it to be connected straight off the aux input?

I run an autocom plus radio which charges off the bike, GPS, iPod and my heated grips all off my bike (650). Doesn't seem to have any problems and 2 years on has never failed to start first time - even when I have left the GPS plugged in and switched on for a couple of days (oops!)

I think you may have a duff battery. Are you giving the bike a decent run to charge the battery every couple of weeks?

Hmmm, naybe not. It can take 10 minutes just to put back what starting uses.

How sure are you that the canbus is switching off after three minutes? Reason I ask is because the autocom WILL drain your battery, despite it alledgedly turing off if the mic isn't connected.

My battery would go flat in a couple of days with the autocom connected, so now I've fitted a switch to the live, so I can turn it off when not in use. It used to flatten the battery on my K1200RS too...

As for output, the alternator is capable of running the bike, my GPS, the autocom, heated grips, heated jacket and a pair of spotlights too for me, so I don't think that's the problem! :thumb

Well, that then gives me an excuse for longer stints out on the bike. :augie

I'll try with the heated grips on again and see what happens.

Thanks guys - much appreciated :beerjug:

Hi
I just had my bike in for same problem and bmw fitted a relay because the intercom was still live after half an hour after i switched off bike. When I started bike again intercom wouldn't work so I had turn off and start it again.
This is a problem with the 2010 models(bikes and autocom). This so far (fingers crossed) is working.
