I know there is a thread somewhere for this but cant find it.I have a garmin Zumo that I used in a cage,I would lke to use it on my bike but have no clue how to do this. Can you tell me what I need and how to do it please.
As the Zumo 660 comes with all the required bits for bike use (cradle, wires, RAM mounts...), it's pretty straight forward. Run the power straight off the battery (1100/1150 that is, can't comment on 1200 canbus black magic). If it's the Z550, I can't comment.
As Cogs says, should be straight forward... you'll need some form of Comms in your helmet if you want to hear the directions, if not it should bolt straight on The 550 comes with everything you need in the box as well....
First thing to check is that you have the mounts for it....if its a new one you should have had all that is necessary to make it work on the bike.
I've got a fairly old ( now) 2650 which is plumbed into an Autocom set up... but the zumo's I believe are bluetooth-able
I would advise against wiring direct off the battery as you run the risk of draining your battery since the GPS mount will always be live. The GS bike has an Aux power sully, either taped up near the horn or under the oil cooler. Nippy normans supply a BMW type connector witch is very straightforward to wire up. I have used this set up for 30k miles with no problems on a Garmin 550 and now a 660.
I think this is the best route to go down.
