Any one got any ideas why my power supply to my garmin 2820 is disturbed sometimes, I could be riding along and suddenly a blank unit, this happens quite a lot and I am off to the continent tomorrow, it's not the lead because i have 2 and the same thing happens. any ideas?

Where are you taking the power supply from? Direct from the batery or via an accessory socket?

make and model of bike would help too, as this is not unheard off on gs1200 and in fact is mentioned in the owners handbook

clean the contacts on the plug & gps, smear both with silicone grease.

edit: just seen you have a 12. other suggestions might be more likely.

1200GS

If it's a 1200GS and you're powering it from one of the power sockets (either directly or indirectly) it may be the bike's software that's the problem. Seemingly, the sockets would power off intermittently - it's been sorted (they say) by the latest version of the software. I think there have been some posts on this - I'd do a search for more information.

Checked your profile its a R1200GS. best bet is wire direct to the battery if you have time, and make sure fuse (1A) is easily accesable, and you have a few spares, as plug will be live all the time and very easy to short out.

Coincidentally K12pfc, mine is in for service today and I'm having them look at the same problem on mine. The unit MBW Nav II, is fine in the car but on the bike (wired in on purchase) I get this happening too. Watch this space.

This is a well known problem with the 1200gs software. There is an update available from BMW. See this
