There's alot of stuff on how to improve performance for the 1150, but what about us poor people with 1100's (I realise that I'm leaving myself open to the "what's he on about, I have an 1100 because it's better" lot.)
1. What mods are availiable. 2. And more importantly at what cost. 3. Are there any negatives to these mods, 4. Should I just raid the wife's piggy bank and get myself an 1150!

Thanks

Let it breath. As it is, its like you trying to run round teh block breathing only through your nose!:D

A free flowing exhaust and a new motronic chip helps. Livened mine up anyway!

I put a Laser exhaust [straight through and ditching the cat] and chip on mine. Certainly felt like it had more 'ooommmph!'
K&N to breath better.
Good Luck!
Also worth getting to know how to set your tappets and invest in a throttle body balancer [ I prefer a Twinmax electronic one as they are so easy to use - available from a company called Calamander].
Good Luck!;)

Convert it to RS spec, change the cams and pistons, check the fuelling, freer flowing or RS type silencer.
80bhp becomes 90bhp,plus proper acceleration above 4.5K rpm.
All genuine BMW parts and zero problems.
Blag a ride on a 1100RS and tell us it's not what you need:D

cornhilldo hope this helps,

I'm riding a modified 1100 on a RTW trip, Taipan has the right idea about letting it breath. The 1100 has a lot to offer but is heavily restricted when it leaves the factory because of German legislation.

My advice would be to take things slowly and make a few changes at a time, that way you can gauge for yourself which changes realy make a difference.

A K&N air filter will help your 1100 breath a little better, but won't have your front wheel lifting :D

Getting rid of the collector box and putting on a straight through pipe will liven things a bit and will make your machine sound as big as it looks.

Simply enlarging the air intake by replacing it with a larger funnel will make a difference, although you will burn more fuel, mid you more power means more fuel anyway so...

Do a search on this forum for Bb power chip or power commander will bring up some interesting ideas.

have a look here for other ideas, it's a list of the mods made to my own bike.

I've just rebuilt the bike after 38 countries and 82,000 km ready for South America, here's the before and after.

that's not what you say here

Some fine tuning needed granted. It may not worry some, but I'm fussy and like my bikes fuelling correctly. But the incease in overall power delivery is more than obvious when fitting both a less restrictive exhaust and even the power chip.

Even as a newbie to Boxer engines, I could feel instantly that the engine wasn' t able to breathe properly. The standard power delivery is dire and stiffled.

Let 'em breathe and set those ponies free!
