Having fitted an Otterbox to my handlebars I want to hard wire a power lead for my iphone. Has anyone done this?
I know I can get a 12v ciggy adaptor power lead and plug that into the accessory socket via an adaptor but i'm concerned about making it waterproof.

Cheers
Steve

you dont say what phone it is but if it needs 5v then yes I have done this with one of these http://www.technobotsonline.com/switching-5v-regulator-1a.html wired into the GPS socket. If it uses a mini/micro USB plug then the red and black wires in the USB cable is + - and join the other two wires together. If you dont join them then the phone will assume its connected to a PC and will only charge with limited current where joined it will think it is on an AC adapter and charge full power.

I should add you could use one of the cheap non switching regulators but they get hot so you would need to allow for cooling somehow. The one above only gets look warm even when fully loaded with the phone running GPS and music. I just have it stuck in the back of the box with a bit double sided tape but you could do it lots of ways.

Do you have any links / pics of the handlebar mounting and box you used. Ive just upgraded my nokia to an Iphone4 and lost all onboard comms in the process:blast.

Having been stung by an e-bay otterbox supplier I'm buying direct so an idea of the parts I need would help.

I used an Otterbox 2600 I bought from a US ebay seller:
http://www.otterbox.com/2600-PDA-Armor-Series-Case/2601,default,pd.html
and this is bolted to an old Touratech garmin 2610 sat nav holder with the cradle bit removed. This gives me a rubber mounting that bolts on to the cross bar.
They crop up on Ebay a lot but i got mine from a fellow tosser for £25.
Let me know if you want a pic.
