I'm about to fit a set of hella micro DE's to my 1200 gs. I want them on with dip beam so I want to power the relay up from the dip beam input wire. Anyone done this? Got any suggestions for where to attach the new wire? I don't want to use one of those horrible splice connectors and I want the take off near the headlight as thats where the relay is going.
Any ideas or suggestions gratefully received.

I used one of those "horrible splice connectors" and placed the joint inside the headlight unit - better weather protection.

When you take the headlight unit off you will find a convenient flat area on the back that you can drill and then seal the wire in place with a grommit or silicon.

Why don't you use the side light power for the relay then you can use the DE's anytime, even with the engine off. And it's easier to get to :thumb2

I scotchlocked into the yellow dip beam wire inside the headlamp unit and led the wire out through a ~3mm hole drilled in the bottom of the access cap. See also the micro DE HID conversion thread in the GS mods section for more info.
