Changed to cable broadband so the modem and wifi router are now back in the hall near the BT master socket.

Wifi not good enough for Netflix on the TV so changed the netgear wifi router to Apple airport extreme 5th gen. This did not cure the issue so I am thinking of powerline plugs.

Can I use both routers by linking them through the powerline or should I get a powerline with wifi that will link to the netgear as the apple will only work with apple products.

Would adding airport express be better than powerline?

run a speed test: http://www.speedtest.net/ and post the results. Netflix should be fine over wi/fi unless you are running 1080 (don't know if netflix does 1080 hd?).

If you want the fastest connection, run a cat 6 cable from the router to your tv. That will give you the best speed possible but once you have a 10mb+ speed over wireless, you should be fine. If your tv is too far from the router for a good wifi signal, you can use an airport extreme at the router and an airport express near the tv to strengthen the signal but it's hassle and can be finicky to setup.

You wouldn't need your old router. One of the Aiport Extreme Ethernet ports would go into the power line in one room, then you would plug in the other power line close to your TV and connect via Ethernet.

Even though my router sits next to my AppleTV I still have it wired - it's just faster and more reliable

Thanks that is what I was thinking.

Tested wifi at tv and getting 12mb but netflix drops out because of the distance to the router. Fibre BB running at over 30mb next to router. Cat 5 e or 6 cable is not viable for me at this time.

If the powerline also has wifi option should I use the netgear that has the WPS quick link option? Apple no longer supports this.

router to pl adapter via cable next to each other then in tv room pl adapter to tv via cable cat 5,6 or 7 would be the way i would go.

Hi

Powerline adapters really do work very well. We use lots of them here, and always go for Solwise ones.

To the original poster, if you do this, make sure you put your not-so-SuperHub into 'Modem Mode' otherwise you'll be 'double-NAT' which causes trouble with a lot of applications. You can then use your Airport Extreme as a router.
