PR4 OR CONTI For My Gs Lc What do you reckon ????

brilliant tyre.....on second set and used in switzerland, wet n dry...scottish hills wet n dry and all over place....cracking tyres...bit noisey but you get used to it...

On the Pirelli website they only recommend Scorpion Trail 2 for the GS range. Other makes show a range of tyres suitable for the bike.

I usually check with the manufacturers since I had my blackbird as Bridgestone made a specific BT 020 tyre for it due to performance and weight. If the PR4 is suitable for the GS I would have thought it would be on the website.

I noticed a nail in my Bridgestone 020 the night before my Blackbird was due a service. I rode to George Whites (the old shop in Mancheter Road) in Swindon where I was told they couldn't plug it and that it was a special 020 they needed to order.

I rode the 80 mile journey home with the nail in and plugged it myself. :thumb

What tyre pressures should i run standard gs lc pilot road 4 trail ?

Looking forward to a blast now and the forecast is good for the weekend!!!!

I have Contis Trail Attack 2s on my 12GS because fitted last year there were no PR4 trails available anywhere . Yesterday I replaced the rear after 8k miles with another Conti attack 2. Cheaper than PR4s , great grip in the dry and never had An issue in the wet . The best thing is the way they behave when they are worn as the handling doesn't go off , they grip the same and no wiggling over white lines or tramlining like several sets of tourances did.

My Crosstourer has PR4s on . No stability issues even at 110-120 mph. Whilst they feel ok , and grip really well, they seem to have a very flat profile which I think slows up the handling so when they wear I think I will put Contis on her too to see if that improves things.

With you all the way on this.

Intresting... My PR4s have c5000 miles on them and I can feel the slowing difference, it's not a bother as I'm commuting and there seems to be good life left in them but I would change them if I was going on a trip as a fresh set of PR4s just add to the occasion.

I wonder how different TK70's would be, not that I'm considering them for there gnarly look :-)

So, does EVERYONE with the Trail Attacks on the LC experience weaving/ issues at higher speeds over 100mph?

I did
But not always
I think it depended on
road surface
Wind
Luggage

In comparison my 2005 1200gs
Was stable up to full speed on the conti's

I can't speak for EVERYONE :) but I had some weaving with Trail Attack 2's at higher speeds, though like gsuk said it wasn't all the time.

I put a set of PR4 Trail's on about 900 miles ago and haven't had a weave since.

I tried all the tyre pressures Conti suggested and still had the weave, sometimes a lot lower than 100mph, there a good tyre spoilt by the weave

On the WC's I have had:

  • Anakees's - which were Ok.
  • Trail attack II's which I did not like in the wet.
  • and now on Metzerler Next's which I really rate in all conditions - I did get the last back tyre down to 2mm in 4,000 miles though (front will do at least twice that).

Will be sticking to Nexts for the foreseeable future ;)

Comparing apples with pears :augie

Conti Trail attacks were my tyre of choice on the Hexheads but would not put another one on a WC. Compare the profile of the hexhead fitment to the WC and you will see that they have very different shapes.

On my 2005 1200gs they were my favourite tyre
On my 2013 1200gs wc I couldn't find a favourite in the year and 30000km i rode it
I tried
annake3
Roadsmart 2
And trail attack 2
And then went on to the ktm
you think they are bad on a 1200wc
try them on a ktm1290sa
Then they are terrible
