Pragmasis 13mm / Abus 12ks/120 noose end chains + Litelok x3 - fit compatibility

Dear Forum

Research has landed me with a short list as follows:

Noose end chain
> Pragmasis protector 13mm 1.2m
> Abus 12KS (12mm) 1.2m

D Lock
Litelok x3

However...the same research has given conflicting results stating the Litelok x3 will/will not fit through the smaller link of both chains listed above as the shackle diameter of the Litelok x3 at 25/26mm diameter is a smidge too wide; fitment would require removal of some of the outer coating of the D lock which I'm reluctant to do.

So...my question....does anyone use the above chain/D lock combination & if so, does the outer coating of the D lock require 'trimming'....or not.

Gimme 5 minutes Kieth, I’ll pop out to the garage and see if my X3 fits through my Pragmasis chain and take a photo.

Here’s a few pics, it’s a snug fit but it goes through.

Im not sure if my chain is 12mm or 13mm, I bought it ages ago before Pragmasis stopped trading. I believe they are trading again now. Sorry for the dark images my garage lighting is a bit dim like me. :D

I haven’t used the X3 with this chain as I have a high security padlock for it, the D lock is ideal for my Tmax scooter rear wheel.

And well spotted, mine is an X1 of course (NOT an X3 as I thought).

Can’t you just remove a bit of the rubberised covering, to reduce the diameter?

Reconsider what exactly Mart?

Layered security, starting with a pound of butter perhaps.

That the guy is using a mains powered angle grinder with high wattage to cut the locks? He might just as well be using and oxy cutting torch or thermite lance.

I hope the thieves have a petrol generator or a long extension lead, those locks are only designed to resist a battery grinder or an hammer attack.

Indeed, but some of them take a hell of a lot of work to get through , The Kryptonite put up a very good set of scores

If it took 10 discs to go through with a powered grinder, its going to take a hell of a lot more with battery powered stuff

I was thinking of an X3 as a 2nd option, but i may now look at the Kryptonite as an alternate
 
I take the opinion that these are D locks all a REASONABLE level of security and if a layered approach is taken such as steering lock, disk lock, D lock and perhaps even a stout chain around a lamp post, the crims will have more work to do than they are willing to bother with and will look elsewhere at a different bike. Any of them should suffice.

Having a 1250GSA and a Tmax (probably two of the most desirable bikes for thieves) I always fit whatever security I can.

A few minutes of kerbside faff is way better than a long walk or bus trip home.
 
I think that’s just about it. Something, is better than nothing. Several somethings, are better than one something, which itself is better than nothing.

Having something that is genuinely difficult or awkward to use, will mean that you’ll probably not use it. Not using it, equates to nothing.

Finding it gone and trudging home, is very dull.

Never neglect the pound of butter in the fridge.
 
Bike security is a bit like being chased by a shark I reckon.

You don't need to be the fastest swimmer, just be faster than the slowest guy.

Fit something, anything, and let them steal the unlocked bike instead.
Or remove all the security on the bikes around you when you park :D
 
As the chap from Bennetts just keeps on saying "something is better than nothing" even if just a basic disk lock. I use two D locks as I can carry them on a tail pack (plus the chain and alarmed disc locks if needed), one being the X1 and the other the seatylock mason which isn't especially grinder resistant but is crop resistant. Take seconds to fix both. Doesn't matter what you use as many targeted thefts involve a van and a few burly guys to lift the locked bike into the back unless shackled with a chain to something solid. I don't see the need to use a massive, heavy chain away from home. Most monster chains can be easily defeated with a battery grinder, so the reality is a 13 or 14mm chain is no safer than a 10mm, but are more crop resistant. Just the sight of a chained bike with decent locks may be enough for wannabees to move on the the next bike without anything. I only carry my 10mm Hiplok chain because it's light and compact but never use it on its own, always in conjunction with the D locks.
 
When touring, I usually carry a lighter 10mm chain and lock in the bottom of a pannier. Although it probably exceeds the rated pannier load it’s never been an issue.

Whilst it’s a 5 minute faff to fit when the “race to the bar” at days ends beckons, I hope to be the one riding who is still home on my steed at tours end whilst an unfortunate biker mate “sans chain” has to take one for the team.

A ruthless attitude perhaps, but crims are crims no matter where you live and the scumbags love the easy option.

I begrudge finding a spare twelve grand to replace my bike if the insurers somehow were to find me lacking through my own negligence.

There is no legal obligation to lock down a bike with additional gear though.

For me, same exact approach to security as yours.
I always do: Abus disc lock + Litelock when I'm on the move with the GS. I grew up in a big city, so the bike is locked even if you park and look away for 2 minutes. Habit.
My HP is also chained to the ground with a Pragmasis chain through the frame, and anchor when in the garage + disc lock.

None of these are declared on the insurance policy, just to avoid any discussion.
The price change for the premium would be zero anyway.

I now know the Litelok x1 fits through (thanks @Pukmeister - Adam).

Acknowledge the comment about trimming some of the coating of the Litelok X3 - TBH, something I'd rather not do (personal preference).

Bennetts review states it will fit, albeit it's a squeeze.

So will have to buy, try & feedback :giggle:
 
I'm just looking at a Hiplock DX 1000 and trying to find a Pragmasis Noose chain 14mm to go with it.
