Hi lads'

I'm away on 20th July for 25 days, I've booked a couple of campsites in rout but once at the Alps I've nothing planned accommodation wise, as I'm traveling alone I'm just going to stop when I've had enough.
Know its peak season and at the age of 38 I'm looking for a little reassurance that I'll find room at the inn so to speak :-) , most of the RR I've looked at have peeps booked in advance .
Anyone else just winged in feel free to chime in.
Heading up the route Napoleon ( camping chamberry area ) then in the Alps, out the other side to see the eagles nest.

trips

Wing it all the time all over Europe for the last 15 years no issues just book tunnel and go.

Enjoy

Travelling on your own you should have no problem. It's only when you have large groups (often all wanting single rooms) that problems can occur. We can always find a room in our village if we are full.

I mostly wing it.

My last trip I deliberately pre-booked every night as an experiment, and whilst we never had a bad hotel or surrounding area (they were all recced on something like trip advisor..), it sort of took away the adventure and the unknown.

Some of my fondest memories are of quirky out of the way finds that I've just stumbled across. And I have great memories of some real shitholes - when the missus and I remanis, it's the dire hotels we look back at with fondness and laugh about. By winging it, you stop when where and with whom you like.
A much better adventure ..

Cheers lads, winged it on campsites when with couple mates as we where stuck, as mentioned above it was a shit while but fond memories now:-)

On your own, or with a couple of chums, who don't mind scratching about, wing it. You'll always find somewhere.

Add four, six or maybe 10 more bikes with sometimes pillions and the whole world looks different. You can be sure that several of them will want to know exactly where they are staying and near enough what time they will arrive. And why shouldn't they, if it can be done.

The only thing me and her ever book is the tunnel.
Even flew to Morocco with just the flight and first nights room booked-best adventure yet.
Wingin it is the only way to travel and we're 50:eek:

I am mixing it this year, meeting some folk in the Dolomites and then over to John in Austria with some winging in between.

I have booked the first night, as it will be a long day of Motorway made sense to make sure I had somewhere so I don't lose time looking, but then have a couple of nights winging it to the Dolomites.

Same on way back from Austria, a bit of winging it, then a couple of old favourites.

We've winged it for the last 20 years only once had a problem on the French coast close to the spanish border at the height of the season :blast

Looking for reassurance at the age of 38 - I wish :rob

Six weeks this saturday:-)
Can't wait, first four nights are booked the rest I'll make up when I get there,

Expecting 4000 miles over the three weeks

I look for campsites on google and set the sav nav to them but if it takes my fancy to stop earlier or later then that works fine. If u have a sat nav its easy and you ll find as many campsite as u want. have fun.

Wing it, you'll be fine :thumb

You'll have no problems being a lone rider, a hotel will always find space for you, or make a phone call and arrange for ya :D

A camp site will always find you room.

The beauty then that is if you stumble across somewhere idyllic in the middle if the afternoon you can SAFIOI (Slap A Fuck It On It) and dive in, find somewhere you like in a nice area then have a few days to explore without your luggage.

Enjoy, have a great time ..... M'off misen this weekend :D

Cheers:-)
Got tom tom on the bike so I'll be hitting nearest campsite or hotel if I don't see one near.

Just roll up and ride.We only book if its a race meeting and we are stopping for the weekend, the rest of the time we just go with the flow. In the past we,ve stopped in some right fuckin tramps nests, but its given us plenty of laughs back home.

4 weeks today. :-).

Route all sorted and winging the stops when required

Just make sure you have an idea of alternate routes if any passes are closed, although as you are winging it and have plenty of time it is far less of an issue.

I try and have a rough idea of any "travel days" routes, and the alternates just in case. I also try to plan routes (and program the sat nav) in a way it is easy to just remove a few waypoints to save time of need be.

Have a great trip :thumb2
