Pressed German style number plate?

Hi everyone,

I had seen a few pics of people running "German style" pressed metal number plates and thought they looked quite cool?

As an added bonus it would stop my exhaust from melting the current plastic one!

Has anyone on here any idea where you can get UK legal ones and what exactly is UK legal requirement? i.e. Reflective background? etc

Any help would, as always, be appreciated!

I'm not sure why the German style number plate would be illegal compared to the DVLA guidance. The German pressed plate design has a yellow reflective background, black letters/numbers, carries the national county identifier 'D', etc. I didn't check the dimensions of the letters.

The letters/numbers could be considered 3D I guess, but surely still legal.

I thought that German plates were white.

I know dutch plates are yellow but surely white in Germany unless I'm mistaken.

German plates are white as they are here in Spain. Maybe you are thinking Netherlands They are crap to be honest, the black lettering soon wears off.

Hmm... Thanks for the thoughts guys, I wasn't even thinking of a white background but I'm pretty sure the police would take a dim view of it?

Over here in Northern Ireland the police aren't too fussy about plates to be honest, as long as you don't take the piss with something un-readable!

Thankfully our plate format is three letters followed by four digits i.e. ABZ 1234 so they look good on square plates.

I'm pretty sure you could get away with a yellow reflective background metal plate so long as the letters and typeface were close to the standard UK ones and were clearly read?

Just need somewhere who makes them???

Seem to be popular with the VW lads , there's an R32 round the corner with white front and yellow rear with GB on pressed in a German Styleeeeey ...

Yeah, you are quite correct, the German (rear) plate is white, not yellow. I must be going senile - but then the bike has been under cover for the winter so don't see much of it .

So much for EU harmonisation !

I've seen quite a few number plate makers in Germany who make up German style pressed plates with whatever colour background you want.

The pressed letters however are the size and typeface for German plates and wouldn't be legal here. (But neither is my plate!)

Hi Guys,

I don't want to be a poo poo, but our lad had German style plates for his VW Lupo, even down to the 'D' on the side.....got pulled by the plod and told to change them as they were illegal in the UK.
