Just checking to make sure I'm getting a good deal as I do not have the highest confidence in the dealer nearest me :(

I've been offered a crap trade in on my current bike (don't they always, and yes, it is a jap bike so depreciates faster than a south american currency during a revolution) but to "compensate" the dealer has knocked 700 off the top line price of the bike (spec includes panniers, alarm, abs, wire wheels and toastie warm grips).

I know dealers never good give trade ins, and but, never having been shopping for a BM before, I'm not sure if 700 notes off is a good discount.

Any thoughts?

Got f*ck all from my dealer on a straight cash purchase. I'd have ripped his arm off if he'd offered me £700.00 off.

Got £50.00 off the panniers, £20.00 off the inner bags and £1.00 off the fender extender. Big deal!

Any discount is a bonus
with that spec minus the £700 i guess around £9,800

Humbug
probably the same dealer as me

I got a quote from 4 dealers in the spring. 3 of them offered the bike at full retail price. The other one offered to throw the heated grips in for no cost. If your dealer is offering a discount of £700, then take it now!! :)

I've been offered the bike (as spec'd) for 10k

My problem is that the dealer has been a bit vague on specific prices. Complete Panniers & top box were quoted at 800, the panniers themselves are now 400 (no topbox as I am thinking about getting a givi). Asking around on here, several people have bought at a lower price!

He gave me rough figures, I took their demonstrator out (loved it unsurprisingly - top bike as you all know), then a day later we spoke on the phone about specific numbers.

It was at this point he offers silly money for my jap bike saying that new ones are being offered with very low deposit finance so he cannot offer me much for mine.

Having picked myself off the floor and started to recover from shock he then said I really should have engine guards to protect the cylinder guards (80 quid), and white lens are only 22 so it's not really enough to quibble over and that is their standard build etc etc. I mean who really cares if the indicators are white or yellow?

Should I care? My bike is for riding not poncing on the Kings Road in my designer TT gear!!!

Everytime I spoke to him the figure moved (always up surprisingly) and then at the end he said, tell you what I'll cut a deal and take 700 off!

I'm not sure how much of a genuine discount this is and how much is just rounded up costs from all the extras.

Do bmw print an accessory price list? i couldn't find one when i looked :(

Blimey!!

Thanks Gauloises - looks like there will be one dealer without an arm tomorrow then!

After the test ride I knew I was going to buy it anyway! Just wanted to make sure I was taking the bike for ride, not the dealer taking me for one ;)

price 1200

pick my 1200 up in march in grey, ABS,SIDE CASES,HEATED GRIPS,GRASH BARS,EXTRA ACCESSORY PLUG ON DASH, 10.000 dont think there is any bmw dealer would knock off 700, Its the trick price it over the top then knock off 700 POUND

I also don't think any BMW dealer would give you a £700 pound discount. I only managed free heated grips, what you want to do is give the dealer a call and tell him that you may have a buyer for your old bike and ask him if the £700 discount still stands  as there is no px involved

Yeah, I know. I think that ynotbiker is right.

Everytime I've spoken to the dealer, prices have been vague but when it came to buying time the total bill seemed very high! Will see if i can get a very detailed price breakdown tomorrow and will report back (hopefully the proud owner of a new GS :D:D:D)

On the road price of the basic bike is £8715

ABS is £795
Alarm £175
Spoked wheels £245
Heated grips £195
Panniers £390

Total = £10515

All prices of accessories (except pannier prices) taken from the BMW Motorrad site.

Thanks Bob

Can you post the link to the price list as I am sure other new/potential GS buyers would be interested! :thumb

The £700 discount is reflected in the low part-ex price already bid and is being used merely as a sales gimmick.

You seem to be fixating on the discount. The question to ask each dealer is "what is the cost to exchange my bike for your bike with these extras fitted?" There's probably less cash difference between dealers than you have imagined and therefore other factors such as delear reputation and proximity should be considered too.
