I've had an e letter from a local dealer today.

'With effect from 1st June 2010 BMW UK have announced price increases across the BMW Motorrad range.
This affects the majority of models, and amounts to 2-5% increases where applicable. Some models will not be affected by this change, and will remain at the previous on-the-road prices.
If you have already ordered your BMW motorcycle, and are awaiting delivery, your price at the time of order will be honoured. Accordingly, any orders placed between now and the 31st of May will also be honoured at the old price, subject to the bike being registered prior to 31st August 2010'.

Told by dealer yesterday that gs going up about £350 followed by further increase 1st Sept, then there is of course VAT increase on the way ,so all in all about another grand by the autumn . Mind you, cant be sure about the VAT increase but it sure as hell wont go down.

They will let you put a returnable deposit down on the Celebration SE 1200 models but cannot confirm a price, so they will incur the 1st June special offer

This is ridiculous as the pound is getting stronger over the euro!

During the last couple a years many secondhand UK bikes including GS,s have found their way onto the continent, by the van load ! When the exchange was 1 euro to 1 pound all the bargains were in the UK, a complete reversal of a few years ago, hence the inevitable price increases. Even now, despite the strengthening pound you only have to look at Ebay to see bidders from Spain etc trying to pick up the bargains.
I bet your bottom dollar the bank of england etc will be doing its utmost to keep the pound weak. All helps the exports. So expect stuff to be more expensive.
I dont think Im entirely wrong or entirely correct. Just my thoughts.:thumb2

Cant understand which markets you guys are looking at - the pound is of little importance unless we are selling - the Euro has compensated by falling through the floor every time the pound looks to rise, basically we are screwed for some time yet.

The way the larger companies work is they set an exchange rate plan for a minimum of an annual quarter then review up or down. I think you will find that BMWs exchange rate for GBP has been artifically high for last 3 quarters so effectively BMW have subsidised business into the UK. They cannot stand that for ever so the exchange will be adjusted slowly towards reality.:(

BMW Bikes are much more expensive in Germany.........................a new F800GS with ABS/HG/Computer is over 10500Euros......................making them about £2k dearer than here

BMW AG can't subsidise the UK any longer

One thing for sure...................used bike prices will firm up:thumb

I hope a new GSA is £16000, plus panniers:thumb:D

Interesting...I'm looking at a German bike mag - the quoted price of an R1200GS is €13,000 (don't know what spec that is).

If I had bought this in January I would had to have found £12,000 (92p to the euro).

Now it would cost me £11,000 (85p to the euro).

Are the prices going up in Germany too?

a 5% increase on a full spec gsa would make it £14,175 plus luggage. if vat went to 20% it would then be £14,476 plus luggage. the 3 ali boxes are about £1000, wow thats serious, £3000+ more than i paid for mine brand new 16 months ago !!! hopefully this will rub off on used prices when its time for me to change.

I was advised that the prices would be increasing in June when I bought my Gsa at the start of the month...

...think he said about 350/400 more?

Looks like I got a deal! :thumb2

The £ is a bit stronger against the Euro, but not enough to compensate for the delayed price rises. BMW have swallowed a lot of the exchange rate loss over the past couple of years by cutting their margin to keep market share. Also, look at the Euro - Dollar rate. The Euro is weak against the Dollar, so the raw materials BMW buy in Dollars (Steel, Copper etc.) are all going up, as are any parts they source in China (pegged to Dollar). The Euro - £ rate is not the only factor here.
