Price of BMW panniers

You find more people watching the documentary and talking about how to spend/waste money on their GS`s than riding them.

I've all the time in the world, but I'll take some convincing as to why anyone would want to go off road with all their wordly goods in panniers. I don't believe for a minute that I'm the only one here who isn't travellign around the world at the moment on a GS!!

Sorry, but that response just makes no sense at all. None.

You asked why anyone would go off road with their bikes laden. The fact that most are not doing so is just neither here nor there with regards to answering the question.

Please, don't throw logic out of the window when trying to make a point.

Offroad, more than up to the wheel rims in water, with many of my worldly possesions in panners!

bike doesn't handle more poorly, you can still pickup the bike if you have to (even if that involves taking the panniers off - why wouldn't you take them. Mine are mostly filled with 8kgs of water, 4kg of food, cooking stove, sleeping stuff, cameras, spare clothes, spare visor, toiletries etc, bog roll, towel, hat. Given that I travel for weeks with two changes of underwear, socks and shirts and I wash on the way, where is the excess stuff i'm carrying that I don't need the panniers for, and why should I be restricted to the road if I do carry it?

And your subsequent point is as clear as mud. In fact it is so clear as to make little or no sense at all.

The point I'm making is, those few who do happen to be going around the world WILL go off road loaded because they have to. Those who are "going off road" for the day, why would they? I would imagine in the UK at least that the vast majority of GS's never go off road.

My 12GSA came with vario panniers but they are too small to carry my laptop easily so I'm thinking of swapping back. I've got the original GSA rack.

Has anyone the internal dimensions of the ally panniers?

1200 GSA alu panniers inside dimensions:

Right 430x270 height 350
Left 430x 270 ( -70 mm because of exhaust), h = 350
Top 360x300, h= 310

Thanks Bemari, now I can spend even more money.

My laptop will fit very nicely in there. It means I can switch from permanent top box running to just the ally panniers and keep the great looks.

Time to start saving - anyone want to buy some vario panniers?

This is definitely a case of "I can pi55 further than you"

There's shag-all wrong with Vario panniers. There is also nothing wrong with the "adventure-type" aluminium ones.

When (if) I get to the stage when I feel the need to buy "adventure" panniers, I think I'll be able to do it without slating the Varios................. It's horses for courses.:nono
