Pricey Brake pads

Having just fitted a new set of tyres this week I noticed I needed new rear pads, as I was close to the BMW dealer (Clarks in Aberdeen) I went in for a set and was asked for £47.30 Sir! You can guess my answer, I explained that during dealer servicing (whilst in warrenty, I do my own now) they were only £24 fitted, which he refused to believe. I asked him to re-check the price as it can't be right, he did and still insisted on £47. I gave him some abuse and left to go to a local bike shop were they were £14.99.

Anyone else been quoted this price, he must have made a cock up, or are they now gold plated?

That's about right.

Type 1150GS Adv into google and you get a shop which does sevo/abs pads for about £38 a set. The same H&H ones that you can get from other places too.
Interested to know about the ones you got for £15 though - any more gen on the what and the where please. The HH are sintered with Unicorn horn.

Don't know about 1150 but on my 1200 the dealer only charged £46 for supply AND fitting. However as the rear pads on the 1200 only last about 5000 miles I have since bought them on ebay for £14.00 as it only takes about 10 minutes to change them. I am sure you can find 1150 ones on ebay as well.

Why do they wear out so quick on the 1200s?

I just replaced the rear pads on my 1150 servo, 31,500 miles & still about 2mm of pad left.

Anyone willing to tell me what to do and how to do it I would happily become a site sponsor (provided it isn't too expensive) - the information and general help available on here is worth keeping the whole thing rolling. Why do they wear out so quick on the 1200s?

When the bike had done 4000 miles it went in to the dealer for a waranty job and it was found the rear pads were knackered. I was somewhat suprised but tended to scrub off speed with the rears when carrying wife on pillion as it stopped her smacking me with her helmet so assumed that was why.

Now wife has own bike and I only ever use front lever, letting the bike sort the back brake out. They still wear out inside 5000 miles.

I have seen other forum posts on poor rear wear and the general opinion seems to be that the rear disc is too small to do the job so the computer is loading it rather heavily.

It seems to be a minor design fault but as a set of pads is dead cheap and easy to fit its no big deal.

Incidentally, the front pads are still the originals after 16000 miles, including loads of Alpine and stop/start traffic driving.

The pads I fitted at £14.99 were EBC Part No FA363 High performance organic carbon graphite (sintered). Brought from Shirlaws in aberdeen. But any bike shop that stocks EBC pads should have them.

I seem to remember being told that the only suitable pads for servo 1150's were the BMW suplied ones. I think it was a BMW dealer that told me that
