Primary / Secondary Spark Plugs

Can anyone explain the operation of the primary and secondary spark plugs on the 1200 please ?

Specifically, do both primary and secondary spark equally all the time or do the secondary sparks only come into play at certain load / revs / throttle position, etc.

"In the previous two-spark engines, the plugs fired simultaneously, but the new setup can stagger ignition timing (called "phase shift") to improve driveability and fuel economy."

That would seem to suggest that the ECU controls the timing of the secondary plugs independently of the primary ones.
