Could anyone out there please recommend to me a simple printer/scanner/copier.....my two month old Kodak has gone belly up and I DON'T want another one (no wonder the ink is cheap....uses gallons/noisey/unreliable)

I don't want to print photos or do anything fancy, just a simple thing....any good deals whatever ?.....Please....:thumb2

Look at Tesco in store or on line free shipping

Epson Stylus SX125 Printer Copier Scanner
Catalogue number: 208-2989

Cheap good bit of kit, when the ink goes either cheapo replacements or new one :)

Ive got one and its perfect for what you describe

Canon Pixma MP272, thirty quid from Curry's or PC World. Had mine a year and a half, fekkin' ace :thumb

Got 2 Lexmarks, both under £50 from Sainsburys.

One is wireless and they also happen to do scanning, faxing and copying.

Ink last ages but you do have to ignore a load of "warning don't use other ink cartridges" messages when you print. No hassle for half price ink. :thumb2

If you don't need colour, I would suggest a Laser based system. I bought a Brother FAX/Copier/Scanner/Printer MFC -7420 a couple of years back and find that excellent. Sometimes they have discontinued models at reduced prices. Got mine from Staples (which I think are in the UK also).

As above...got one of these at work and am able to produce a much more professional looking print. Plus you get 2300+ pages to a toner cartridge, so about a quarter of the cost per page.

Really surprised to hear about your Kodak printer, I have the ESP5 and its around 3 years old, been totally abused by me for my business and still going strong.:thumb

Have you contacted Kodak and told them they should replace it being that new.

Hope you get sorted soon:beerjug:

I did contact Kodak and they gave me a list of instructions re updating software etc. I did all that they asked but nothing worked. I told them that I would like a replacement and they indicated that I would have to sort that out with the retailer (Amazon) Amazon were brilliant...money back/no issues (no replacments in stock.....wonder why..:augie)

Interestingly, when I bought this printer I checked the Amazon reviews which were OK for a cheapish printer. When I look at the reviews now there are a zillion negative reviews. Probably just a bad batch, but I won't go there again.....

Opinions eh??!!.....:)

I do a lot of black and white printing and my canon inkjet eats cartridges at £15-£20 a shot.

After much deliberation bought a Brother MFC 7360 from Staples For £150- the toners for these models also seem more reasonable than samsung / hp etc- can pick up a 1600 sheet one for less than £30. It is so easy to use it is untrue, plus great print quality and its like lightning compared to my already quick inkjet. Quite why I didn't buy one of these years ago is beyond me.

Another fan of laser printers here. I've had a Samsung ML1210 since 2002. It's not used very often now and will have to be replaced when the current print cartridge runs out of toner.

Print quality remains excellent, it's just the paper feed mechanism is worn out and the paper sometimes doesn't feed or goes through slightly skew. 9 years use is excellent though, and another Samsung is on the list as a replacement together with the Brother mentioned above.

I've found inkjets to be a PITA in the past. They don't seem to like periods of inactivity whereas the laser printer just fires up & runs without any fuss.

Epson SX235W

Crap...nuff said !

Supposed to be WiFi but when I couldn't get the bugger towork ( have resorted to USB cable ) I find out they don't support Windows XP 64 bit

32 yes, 64 no...but they are looking into it . Bastids. Won't be going Epson route ever again and should have stuck with my HP equipment.

( Bit of a poor rant really :D) !!

I got a SX430W last month it is fine on wifi i just had to use the USB to send it the wifi settings
50 quids from argos last month half price dont know if the offer is still on

:flag

there isn't a driver for windows XP prof. (64 bit ) so I can't use the WiFi only USB lead

It must be using a driver to print using usb, all you need to do is to find out the IP address of the printer and and make a new printer port with that IP address.

I had an inteview with the printer under interrogation but it refused to divulge its IP address !!

Seriously, I think I'm outta my depth here :(

I need my Batman light as there is a splendid bloke on the Wirral who offered he his expertise some time ago but I can't remember his name :comfort
