To be honest, I'd dismissed Pro shift assistant in my own mind as a gimmic and something I wouldnt use on an 'non' sport bike. Borrowed an XR today with Pro shift assistant fitted and woah - loved it !

So..quick question, has anyone ridden the XR and GSA back to back (or within reasonable, brief, space of time) to be able to tell me if the experience is similar with Pro shift assistant on our bikes ? (GSA).

I realise its different engine, different characteristics, etc etc - just wondering whether it 'works' or is a gimmic easily transferred by BM to another model to take a little extra hard earned dosh from us....

It works very well on both bikes, but is maybe a bit smoother on the XR. I ran both bikes together for a year until I sold my GSA, and there is a difference, but I never had any issues with it on the GSA. Used as its meant to be used, it's a great feature on both bikes.;)

No - not ridden an XR (or GSA for that matter). However, I love the PSA on my GS and TBH am not bothered if its better on another model. It floats my boat, and that is all I care about ATM

I had a non Gear shift assist on my 2014 GSA and then had an XR which I covered 7k on the gear box on the XR is silky smooth wether using the assist or not.
The GSA box is a bit more Agricultural but I find the gear change is nice and smooth on my 2016 GSA using the assist or not.
I wouldn't be without it what a great addition to an already great bike.

Good example of "Its shit" and dismissed before even using it. As 99% of all the contributions on here.

True. But I kept that opinion to myself until I tried it on the XR today ? Now I've tried it - I wanted the opinion of other people who had tried it.....on both bikes. I bet you've been busy with posts about the referendum last few weeks ;)

Rode a mates XR tonight then my GS directly after that. I knew before I jumped on his, his would be smoother and it is by a mile.

My GSA had it and my XR has it and there is a whole world of difference

The GSA was good but the XR is so slick and fast and the harder you ride it the better it is both up and down the box

How much is the gear shift assist pro as an accessory fitted to a 2013 GS per say?

Anybody got a rough idea?

Hi, I paid about £400 fitted & set up on the Bmw diagnostic.
Mines a 2013 bike but the really early bikes are not able to retrofit.
IMHO I wouldn't bother with it again unless it was factory fitted.

I'd go with that.:thumb

Having had the XR and now a GS with it fitted the XR is better. I think it is due to the higher revs the XR naturally runs with. You need to be more careful in the boxer engine as you can stay below 4K revs all day. I've found changing down is fine so long as revs are below 3K but changing up and down 1-2/2-1 is rather jerky, maybe due to the amount of torque available. Great for popping down the gears when pulling off the motorway and it gives your clutch hand a bit of a rest so happy with it overall.

Shift assist......"on the throttle" gassin' it and performs best above 4000 rpms.

Down shifting....closed throttle...always.....and most can go from 6th to 1st,but preferably 6th to 2nd works best.

Thanks all for comments. I'm going to give it a go and add to the new bike - I can always revert to clutch if I dont enjoy it.
