I've been attempting fitting the H&B bars using the excellent instructions obtained from this forum but have encountered the following problem:

On removing the bolt from the left side foot hanger the alignment with the engime/gearbox casing appears to have slipped a fraction with the result that the new bolt won't take. I have a thead tap to repair any thread damage but first need to get the alignment back. The hanger thread is about 1-2mm lower than the engine casing thread.

Any ideas? Hope you're not all riding your bikes today - doesn't look like I will be.....:(

Thanks

When I did mine I supported the pillion footrest bracket with a car jack underneath. This stopped any slippage... would a similair approach allow you to move it back into alignment?

The car jack worked for me in this situation. Get a small torch, shine it down the screw hole & slowly jack up until the holes align..

JACK

Small bottle jack sorted out my worries when I did exactly what you describe, or the jack in the boot of your misses Corsa / Saxo / etc. You will be able to place it under bike and raise slowly.

Good luck and leave it place for the other side :D

cheers will give it a go

Thanks everyone

i had the same prob, but the right hand side. jacking didnt work for me, so i ended up standing on the footpeg and pulling the subframe with the passenger footpeg with one hand while pushing the screw in with the other. not as awkward as it sounds :)
