So I type something in the address bar, or the google search bar and hit enter.

The bar at the bottom starts to fill up green, or not, and the page doesn't load.

I either click into the address bar or google search bar (depending where I typed) and hit enter again and the page opens straight away. But not always, sometimes takes 2 or 3 goes.

Been having this problem for about 2 weeks. I know Firefox had an update which caused a few problems and then supposidley quickly resolved it, but I also get it on IE.

It's not every web site - UKGSer, for exampe, is normally fine.

Done AVG & MalwareBytes scan and the laptop's clean.

Anybody else suffering intermittent internet at the mo?

Is the internet broken  I've seen the IT Crowd, I know it's all kept in a little black box with a red light on top, at the top of Big Ben for the best signal :mmmm

Me as well :(
Also suddenly getting multiple spam [ up to 100 a day ] from hotmail.com addresses

a name followed by around 15 letters @ hotmail.com all crap :(

Problem is, my Brother and 1 of my son are using hotmail emails so if I block all hotmail.com I lose them as well :(

do you get any messages when the page doesn't load, timed out or could not find? Could be your DNS is a bit slow change your DNS setting to point to open dns http://www.opendns.com/ use the IP address 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220 and see if it still happens. I can give you lots of command line tests to try and trouble shoot this but I dont know what your abilities are.

Depending on what spam filter you are using you can block all hotmail but allow your family. A lot of hotmail accounts got hacked recently and the address books were downloaded.

Nope. Doesn't time out either - then again, I could be getting a bit impatient after 30 sesconds :augie

It's like being back on dial-up

I'm thinking it's a Firefox problem now. I'm using IE no problems at all. Firefox...........It still says loading and the little circle things spinning away.

They've done a few updates recently and I wonder if somethings not worked properly?

Marki got it right.

Are you on O2 broadband by any chance?

I would still change your DNS settings just as a test. Open DNS is free and very reliable and it only takes a few seconds to do. Different browsers handle things in different ways. On the subject of browsers I would recommend Google chrome http://www.google.co.uk/chrome . Its not as fully featured as the others but because of that its extremely fast. I used to be a huge fan of firefox but the last year or so its ran like a dog unfortunately.

had the same problem this week with firefox , try this

open firefox browser , click tools - options - advanced . click on the general tab and then check the box that says check to see if firefox is default browser on startup ,
i had the exact same problems and this solved it ... hope this helps :thumb2

Seems to have been a very recent update to Firefox which makes it a bit more stable, also an upgrade to the Adobe flash player. But I'm using Chrome a bit more now as well.

I think I've sorted it :thumb2

If I close Firefox by closing all windows and tabs, and then try to restart Firefox after a short wait, it won't restart and says it's already running. When I go to processes in Task Manager it shows Firefox.exe running. When I kill Firefox.exe, I can then restart Firefox.

I have the Zone Alarm toolbar in Firefox, but disabled anyway as I don't use it, but having a hunt around the web it seems this may be part of the problem.

I went to "add/remove programs" in control panel and removed Zone Alarm Toolbar.

So far, it's fixed the Firefox restart problem and also appears to have sorted the open in new tabs/window one as well.......back up to normal warp speed :clap
