Hi Guys,
I haven't got heated grips on my R12GS and have priced the parts at £215 (ouch) for the grips and switchgear. I intend to fit the parts myself, thus saving 2 hours labour, and then get SPC to do a quick software update to enable them on the CANBUS system.

I have tried to undo my bar ends with the correct TORX socket. The clutch side felt rough like it was chewing up the thread inside. I have used some Plusgas penetrating oil but they undo to a degree then just spin and don't come off. The throttle side goes round and round without undoing.

Is there some kind of collet system inside the bars to hold the bar ends in place? I have read Tobers guide to fitting Renthal Bars but can't see how the original bar ends fit. Any advice Tobers??

I can't afford to Mullah the bars/grips as I am having a service next week and need to ride the bike to SPC.

bar ends

the torx headed bolt which fits through the bar end weights is locited into an insert , but this insert is machine crimped into the bars so it cannot turn . when i changed my bars i cut the insert out so i could use the original parts, if your inserts are turning with the torx bolt i would ask your dealer for advice before butchering anything

Thanks Shapeshifter, that explains things nicely. Not sure how to work around this one, damn. Could this be a clever ploy to get the dealers to fit heated grips rather than a DIY option ???
