Problem when typing and then deleting words or letters

When I type using the keyboard and then decide that I want to delete some letters or words and then retype to correct any spelling etc I find that any new letters I type deletes the letters that follow - what am I doing wrong?

I think you need to hit the "insert" key.

It's soooooooo anoying isn't it when that happens - try pressing the 'insert' key on your keyboard as this toggles between 'over write' or 'insert'
