After a 200mile ride out yesterday over quite bumpy roads my computer can`t detect my 2610 via the USB port. It`s worked before & I suspect something may have shaken loose (a stab in the dark!) in the GPS although the unit itself works ok. I also had to re install the mapsource software after deleting something I shouldn`t have :doh but the computer wont even recognise a USB cable has been plugged in from the GPS
Has anyone else had this problem?

Cheers

Lee,

when you plug the USB cable into your computer, do you get a 'bing-bong' from XP as it detects a new USAB device? If not, try another USB port...

Mike:)

Cheers Mike :thumb , I normally run the computer with the speakers off but tried them on & I get a fast "ding ding ding" when I switch the GPS on from XP & a "bing bong" when I switch it off. At least I know that the cable & GPS are working ok. I appear to need a USB driver but I don`t know where to get one?? IFAIK I didn`t need to load one on when I originally put the software on my `puter. So

Cheers

Hi Lee,

here are Garmin's latest USB drivers. Make sure your 2610 has the latest software load whilst you're there (v3.90)...

Mike:)

Hi Mike
thanks a lot for your help, I was ready to phone Garmin with my problems :D , but after checking everything out & updating drivers & adding new Hardware via the control panel it`s now working :thumb :thumb

Cheers :D

the latest software,..question is,...on my 2610 it has software version 4.20, now I was looking in the garmin down load section and I can not see this (4.20) that is on mine, I can see the 3.90, so is the 4.20 newer?? or older than 3.90...
not looking to nick the thread, just curious??

Mike:)

on the box it just says "streetpilot 2610"with an R in a circle...
so don't know about weather it is Nav.II????..no where dose it say it is.
I brought it in January of this year.....

so, looks like I need to change to 3.90,take out the 4.20???
how do I go about this???

Just download 3.9 & then load it into your unit - it should overwrite it (but I've not done it myself - you may get issues with trying to overwrite an 'older' software version).

Alternatively, if it works OK - why fix it?

Mike:)

thanks Mike O, for your help, and I think,as you say,if it works why fix it, so I'll give it a test for a while,I have sent an email to garmin to see what they say...only since I updated to v7map, after I have sent a route from the pc to the gps,I then go out and use this route it always ask to recalculate it before I set of, now it never used to do this when I only had the v6.5, I have enabled v7 on the gps,and I have also deleated all my routes that were in 6.5 and re-done them from v7 and see if this makes any difference.....have a good easter, not much like bike weather down this way, pe'in down like a good'un it is..

recalc

It sonds like you have not reloaded your memory card with the v7 maps.
Try reloading a new set of v7 maps to your memory card so that any routes you then transfer from your pc, which you say is using v7, will work without having to recalculate.
