Problems connecting Garmin 346 to a MacBook Air with USB C

I don't seem to be able to connect my Garmin 346 to a MacBook Air to update. I moved from my old MacBook Pro with 'normal' USB ports to the Air last year and haven't updated it since. The Air only has USB C ports, I have an adapter thingy which I can connect it through, but it doesn't seem to be seen by the Mac. Any ideas?

I'll cross post this to computer help as I expect there are more visitors there

Not sure how many ports you have on the Air, but my adapter thingy is only recognised in one of four on my Macbook Pro, so that's the one I use.

Thanks, resolved! I was using a Garmin cable, but an older one, maybe from my long gone 2620 or maybe the 550. In any case it wanted the new Garmin cable, which looks much like the old Garmin cable, but clearly made all the difference. Think I best stick a tag on the cable to remind me in future
