Problems or no problems that is the question

Problems ..
I'm a miserable bartsard , I makes me smile , so not happy .
I don't like handling , it handles , so not happy .
I don't like comfort , it's comfy , so not happy.
I don't like good looking bikes , it's geogeous , so not happy .
It clunks into first , now I like that .
I hate speed , it's quick , so not happy.
Gear shift pro , works like a pro 😜,happy with that .
So with all this disappointment , I'm still not happy

New engine & gearbox at 5500 miles due to appalling gearbox (2nd to 3rd mainly) & corrosion, new LH throttle body 50 miles later. Also new LH switch set. New (heavier crank unit) much better but hardly silky smooth. Yes I am concerned ref quality / variability bike to bike HOWEVER - all is forgiven when riding up & away on the moors - its the Swiss army knife of bikes! Overall BMW have been faultless in support of the bike & its issues & I am still more than happy to keep & enjoy the bike

When i bought mine i was worried i wouldn't like it as much as the air cooled one i sold to buy it (14,000 miles no issues) but after 5000 trouble free miles the only issue i have had is sometimes it can be a pain to get in 5th gear, an i havent worked out whether thats me or the bike yet!

Jan 2104 bike
New exhaust and booked in for a new engine & swing arm due to corrosion that showed springtime. Talking to BMW to get a contribution to change to GSA instead of new engine etc, I Like the bike but not the corrosion resistance, or lack of.

Never heard of 5th gear issues, its typically lower down the gears & at low revs / speed. might be worth getting it checked just in case, the occasional gearbox has been known to seize with disastrous results

20K mileage on my 2013 LC TE (registered April 2013) and it's been to Morocco, Norway and other places in between. Generally very pleased and no major grief - better than previous BMW's I have owned (F800's and RT).

+ Handles well given size even with full luggage
+ Very comfortable mile muncher
+ Lots of toys/gadgets to fiddle with on long journeys
+ Ability to continue following the road even when the tarmac ends
+ Cheaper to service than previous air cooled model
+ Lots of accessories available to further customise
+ No corrosion or paint peeling on mine but hasn't been used in winter and stays in relatively warm garage

Not so good things:
- Replaced under warranty: Water pump, screen adjustment pin and rear pads (plus brake bleed)
- Wire wheels stained / discoloured. Raised with BMW after 2 year warranty expired but not interested (not covered under extended warranty)
- Heated grips extremely poor
- Gear box - first clunks and can't find neutral (same as all the Ducati's I've owned!)
- ESA warning light came on once and couldn't change suspension but possibly an isolated incident

Overall, would absolutely recommend. My dealer suggested 30K mileage is a good selling point as extended warranty stops covering ESA / suspension

Perfect.

24,600 miles now on my 2014 GSA. I've had the occasional time when the suspension goes harsh but only once since the dealer downloaded the newer software (which was the only time it went been back). And the windshield was replaced when I noticed spiderweb cracks around the lower mount holes. That's it, this has been a GREAT motorcycle so far.

Sept 2014 GSA TE, 8.5k miles, great bike, only issues are screen pin circlips and final drive paintwork, to be replaced in two weeks under warranty. Other than that it brings a smile every time I ride it.:thumby:

Dec '14 and 5k miles.

Two recoveries due to keyless not working - both software glitches and battery issue.

Two replacement start / kill switches due to stiffening up.

Software update

Failed sat nav housing.

Otherwise all good.

Oh and can I just ask if anyone else finds the dipped beam useless at nights? Main beam is great but dipped seems rubbish.

Do many owners of these (new) bikes really worry about the reliability? from what I have been told by a salesman at Williams BMW the majority of the bikes are sold on PCP deals and traded in after 2 or 3 years once the warranty expires.

I don't worry about reliability but I'd hate to be stranded somewhere.

On my last Harley, it took two vans and five hours to get recovered back to Chester on a RTTW.

I personally would not want to own one of these bikes with all the electronic trickery outside of the BMW warranty period

The ESA is just waiting to rape your wallet further down the road

30,000 miles....here...there n back again on 2014 gsa....no problems at all and none on previous gsa's.......enough said..:steptoe

BMW set the lights low at the factory. Raise the height, and the light is better than any HID I've had on my twin cams.

Trouble is with this forum is that anyone who does post if they have problems face they wrath of those who would never admit any BMW has ever had a problem especially not the latest model which they also happen to own.

A proportion (but by all means not all ) of the new LC's both the GS and GSA have had more than their fair share of problems and I know BMW will fix then under warranty but the problems shouldn't be there in the first place

Haha so very true....!! It is nearly always the same people too...!!

Well after numerous problems over twelve months and thanks to both Chester Motorrad and Ben Perry from BMW Motorrad, I was finally able to reject my bike and get a new one - for a small fee to cover the mileage done on it. I had lost all confidence in the bike and was reluctant to get another GS.

To be fair this is the first time that I have been plagued with problems on a BMW and I've had a good few.

I got my replacement just over two weeks ago and, so far, I am delighted with it.

I just hope that this is a fresh start as I really enjoy my new bike.
