Problems or no problems that is the question

2014 GSA TE - 11,000 miles and no major problems.

I had a new near side foot peg changed under warranty - corroded badly and looked like it was made of old tin cans - and there's a hint of misting in the clocks that I noticed last week when I was out for a short run. It's due it's two yearly/12,000 mile service in the coming weeks so I'll get my local dealer to sort it out (appears there's a few that have the misting issue on here).

Love the GSA, it's my fifth (2000 - 1150, 2005 - 1200, 2006 - 1200 GSA, 2010 - 1200GSA) and can't see it being sold any time soon.

Spoke too soon, bike went in for its service and will be going back in on Monday to get clocks, paralever and centre stand replaced. My dealer (HF Inverness) have been brilliant with the PUMA action, can't recommend them highly enough :-)

It's pants that this sh*t should happen but deeply gratifying that it's dealt with appropriately as and when it arises.

Thank you HF Inverness.

Problems... but a keeper

I am a US rider that loves riding the mouhntains of West Virginia and backroads of Maryland in my GS2014. This bike is fantastic every time I ride it. Now close to 20k miles I have had some frustrations with issues that were solved under warranty. To be honest, after many bikes I have had, this GS has provided me with so much fun under different scenarios including heavy loaded, under the rain, gravel roads, mountain switxhbacks, etc, that I think it is a keeper. Despite the issues (fuel pump, battery, throttle cable) I will keep this bike when warranty expires and I had to pay the repairs. It is worth when It makes me happy. What is life for?

May 2013 TE. Now on 18700 mi!es. I'm 2nd owner. Frame and a fork leg replaced under warranty in 2014. Engine replace this June due to corrosion. Still enjoying it and still has less problems than my 2011 Multistrada Sport Touring!
Will see what the 2018 GS is like before I change the bike.

That's the only real complaint I have about mine and Allan Jefferies aren't interested in fitting 2015 grips under warranty

The ESA occasionally changes to solo preload when parked up and it's had a front brake master cylinder cap and the right hand switchgear replaced under warranty.

Other than that, it's the best bike I've owned and it's still putting a smile on my face after 11500 miles.

The main problem is that SWMBO loves it too and insists it's a keeper, so I'm struggling to justify buying an S1000XR next spring :tears

April 2016 engine and drive shaft replaced due to corrosion (already starting to reappear :blast )
September 2016 failed ESA rear shock absorber about to be replaced free of charge by BMW as I'd complained about intermittent problems during the warranty period

March 2015 GSA
Not missed a beat in 7,000 miles. Nothing's failed, needed adjustment, nothing.
Loved every second of riding.

Trip booked down to Switzerland in October. Counting down the days :thumby::thumby:

1year old GS ,6,000 miles, oil leaking from weep hole resulting in new water pump fitted at service not impressed but I'll forgive her! Nearly forgot,Clocks misted up after a few days riding in the rain in Scotland but it hasn't happened since and the paint has rubbed off on the side stand.Give it a good clean yesterday after another 1500 mile week long trip and it nearly like new .

Problems is the answer, but nothing serious!

2016 GS TE
LHS handlebar switch cluster replaced (trip/info button sticking down)
Rubber gaitor on rear hub holed
Excessive travel on rear brake pedal (seems to have improved over time)

2013 GS TE (previous bike)
LHS handlebar switch cluster replaced (c/c switch faulty)
Engine cutting out when clutch pulled/disengaged
Original rear pads premature wear.
Engine paint bubbling
Centre stand corrosion (thin paint?) (rugged roads guard fitted to new bike)

2014 te.
Bought late last year with 4k miles, coming up to 11k and its been bril.
Zero issues.
Paint finish as new on engine etc.

If being picky would say the rims (spoked wheels) are a bugger to clean. ;)

In contrast my 2103 twinspark multi had severe corrosion on the majority of fasteners, chain, and exhaust parts. Failed heated grips. Remote (keyless fob thing) didnt always work 1st go. Issue where the fan didnt cut in during Italy trip (which fixed itself!!). High speed weave that I couldnt cure. Paint rubbing off the frame from my boots. Replacement fork leg due to braided lines not being clipped/routed properly. Silly size rear wheel nut with a waste of time tool for adjusting the chain.
Great to ride in general with a stonking engine, no confidence in keeping long term though..

2013 GS LC - fantastic

Morocco, Iceland, all over Europe, off road at times.
Absolutely brilliant, only issue is cast wheels not really man enough for off road. Dinged front wheel in Morocco, f**ked it in Iceland so second hand wire wheels now fitted.
Owned countless bikes over the last 40 years and this is one of the best.
Maybe all the issues of corrosion are due to cleaning it too much and not riding it enough ?

52000 miles....2014 LC.... Had rear suspension at 30000 and a starter switch which got a bit stiff. Ridden hard all over the place and a fair few miles two up.. Runs like a dream. Regular service and that's it..oh, and a wash every 6 months...

2015 GSA LC
8.5K miles.

Fuel cap refused to open and due to dealer incompetence it took a few visits for them to sort it out.
No issues other than that.
