After a malicious softwear programme fecked up my PC, I had to have a new hard drive installed. This meant reinstalling stuff like iTunes etc.

I'm having problems reinstalling MapSource though. I can't unlock my maps. I only get so far on the wizard, after inserting the Unlock 25 digit code and the 7 digit Reg Code. I then get a window pop up which says "Error Accessing Internet (12038). Please verify Internet Connection And Try Again."

I have tried again: lots of times but get not further than this. I've tried switching my firewall off but that makes no difference.

Anyone encountered this?

:(

If you're using Vista, there's a patch for it that you have to apply first before registering/unlocking.

Should be on the Garmin site somewhere, but i do remember people having similar probs before and IIRC, that was the solution :thumb2

Can you go into your MyGarmin account and get the codes that way?

I've got the codes, John. It's when I try to load the Reg Cod, the pop us tells me that I'm not accessing the internet (when I am)...

I'm using XP. Will that be the same solution perhaps?

Ronno me old fruit....If I was doing it in your situation, I'd start off with a totally fresh and new Mapsource install, after deleting the previous versions...don't do it from your DVD/CD either, do it by downloading the latest version and installing that from scratch....it's supposed to be impossible, but THIS thread may help you there ;)

At least then, you'll know you have a clean and up to date version which you can try unlocking on :thumb2

Hmmm..:(

There's no logical reason for this, but sometimes plugging the unit into a different USB port and letting it be recognised freshly helps other things too....failing that, all I can suggest is calling Garmin tech support....if you can get through to them, they are very good :thumb2

EDIT......just found this as well.....

ust installed Topo GB v2 and the unlock wizard errors with an error 12038 saying it can't connect to the Internet.

I called Garmin support and they sorted it out straight away - keyed the registration details and gave me the 25-digit unlock code so now all is working!

Thought I'd post this in case anyone else has this problem, and to say how great Garmin support were in dealing with it.

when I've had problems with mapsource in the past doing wobbly things and uninstalled it I also had to remove any entrys in the registery as well for the reinstall to take properly.

If your confident editing the registery then it maybe worth a go if your not then stay away as you could feck up your PC big time

I eventually had to phone Garmin. After waiting 12 mins, I got good assistance and then the line went dead :(

Another lengthy wait (18 mins) and I got the same helpfull bloke.

I downloaded new mapping and he gave me a new unlock number after verifying my unit serial number. He talked me thought he procedure and I'm now operational again.

Thanks for all the suggestions here :beerjug:
