When i stop the bike while out on a ride for a few minutes it is really hard to start.

It seems to happen 2 or 3 times each time i ride it and its getting to be a pain as a few times it has caused me to become separated from the group in the middle of nowhere.

sometimes it seems to try and star, others it seems like the starter isnt even trying. after about 5 goes the battery is almost flat so its a real problem with no kickstart. this is the thing that worries me most as its impossible to bump start a bike in snow etc

i thought it may be a kill switch fault as the first time it happened i hit the red button a few times and re tried the starter and it worked. i have taken the switch apart and cleaned it with electrical lubricant but it still does it every now and then.

It starts easily when cold.

i have contacted the dealer as my sides tand snapped off yesterday while on a trail leaving a sheared bolt inside the frame. bmw are getting the pleasure of extracting this as the bike was bought brand new in november.

i told them about the starting problem but they didnt seem to know any common fault what may cause this. i want them to run the diagnostics check to see if there is any record of this.

anyone had similar issues?

WindyChuffer to the G450X technical phone:D

He has had the same and turned out to be crank IIRC:blast

Let's get some details about the bike.

Have you fitted the power plug?

Have you fitted an aftermarket Exhaust Can?

There is an update for the software in the ECU brain, have you had that done?

There was a lot of stuff elsewhere (can't remember where), about dodgy connectors behind the headlamp in the wiring loom, which can cause starting problems.

There is a recall for the fan switch. I went into the garage one day to find the fan running even though the bike hadn't been run for a few days. This will flatten the battery, a deep discharge will, if it's done too many times, shag the battery. I got a new one out of BMW 'cos of this.

the power plug has never been fitted yet

the 'big one' can which came as part of the spares package is fitted but this problem happened with a standard can also.

not sure if the ecu update has been done or not

not sure if the fan switch recall was done. the fan does seem to cut in a fair bit but these engines do get hot quickly.

the battery has never been flat and is on an optimiser when not in use

what is this about dodgey wiring behind the headlight? ive got a feeling it is just a loose connection as im sure when i bash the starter/killswitch housing it seems to start better

yeah ive found that which made me think it could be a TPS problem but it idles and runs perfectly once it starts

Did you get a solution to this starting problem; my bike ( 10 hrs on the clock + plug + andropovic can) is behaving exactly the same, in fact I just pushed it home from the supermarket......
My dealer is four hours drive away so I'd rather try a home fix if there is one

had it back to the dealers this week for a new sidestand bolt which had snapped off.

they had a look into the starting issue and fitted a new starter button so will see how that works.

I also suspected that it was something in the starter button area, i gave the unit a whack and havent had a problem for the passed three weeks, must strip it down and clean when i get the time...
