Just removed my rear caliper on the 1100GS to fit Goodridge hoses, and one of my pistons was sluggish, so removed them to clean thoroughly. They are steel - but seem to be Teflon coated - the sluggish one just had a bit of a dirty ring around it - just wiped clean.

The blo*dy rear Goodridge hose won't fit onto the fixed pipe nipple!! This nipple has an unthreaded "nose" on it, about 2mm long before the threads start - and this bit won't actually go into the new Goodridge coupling!!

I think the way forward is to carefully reduce the diameter of this "nose" bit with my Dremel and a grinding stone - if I can get in there to rotate the nipple as I grind it!! The threads seem the same on both the old and new pipes - so hope this "mod" will do the trick!! Just hope the other 4 pipes fit without probs - wasn't banking on having to do open-heart surgery so soon into the exercise!!

I would send them back Mike and get them to send you a kit which fits without any modifications...

UPDATE - I have ground down the "nose" of the fixed nipple - it now goes into the Goodridge coupling, but is refusing to screw into it! Talking to Goodridge yesterday, the specs for the coupling are 10mmx1mm thread size.

I can't accurately measure the 10mm bit - but the nipple is definately a 1mm pitch thread, so I can only assume they have a slightly different diameter coupling fitted to the new hose - they certainly won't screw together.

I find it hard to believe that I'm the first customer with a 10 year old bike to have encountered this problem - unless BMW altered the spec of this item during the model run.

This is the first of the 5 new pipes I've tried to fit - hope the other 4 don't cause this much grief!! Luckily, I'm only 40 miles from their headquarters in Exeter, so I'll have to take the bits down for them to investigate the problem.

They asked if I could remove the fixed section of line from the modulator, also, so they could see the nipple - but that is a right pain, so I've taken a photo of it instead :-

Will report back when they've had a look at the evidence!!

you are definitely NOT the first person to have a problem with Goodrich. Took me 3 attempts to get the correct set from them - despite them having the information they required for the ordering process - though in my case they insisted on sending pipes with incorrect banjos - first time wrong angle. second time correct angle - but the pipe had to be twisted to fit. third time was correct.

Hmmm - that's interesting, MB - the guy on the phone admitted they couldn't feasibly try each set onto each type of vehicle they produce pipe sets for - seems they have a source of "specs" for each different vehicle coupling - whether that would give them the correct orientation for each individual coupling on each individual pipe I can't imagine.

Maybe they wait for complaints/feedback from customers, then alter their specs to reflect this, I don't know - but you'd think that on a vehicle with about a 5 year model run, that hasn't been produced for 10 years, they would have ironed out any problems by now!

I was searching my spare bolt tin for a 10x1 metric bolt, but couldn't find one - I think a standard 10mm bolt has a 1.25 pitch - plenty of them in there!! Then I had a brainwave - the bango bolts they supplied were the required size!!

It would fit fine in the old rubber pipe - but not in the Goodridge one - so either their "spec" is definately wrong - or I have a faulty coupling.

Tried to find a tap the correct pitch to run up the coupling - but didn't have one that fine a pitch - so it definately has to go back to them to sort out.

Joy of joys - don't you just LOVE home maintenance?!!!!!

you may have more luck with HEL. only reason I didn't buy them was they failed to respond to my email and the phone number just rang and rang.

I see there's a goodrich reseller on ebay now. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Goodridge-Braided-Hose-Kit-BMW-R1100GS-ABS-94-00_W0QQitemZ270321379520

UPDATE - well, went down to the factory at Exeter on Monday - the guy there agreed the coupling WAS faulty - either machined wrongly - or, maybe, an Imperial one had been fitted by mistake - there are no part numbers stamped on the fittings.

They couldn't fix it while I waited - but promised to return it at the end of the week!!
