Project Bumble Bee is complete

You have three choices with the castings

1 Bead and vapour blast and then lots of laquer coats to seal out oxidation
2 Bead/vapour blast and then keep on top of it with a fine wire/brass brush between washes
3 Some USA sites suggest a wire brush with a slight dip into chrome wheel paint but this is just a "keeping at bay" treatment.

To get to this stage you would have to strip the whole lot out and then outsource the vapour work to a second party if you did not have the facilities yourself.

You can do a good job with a fine brass brush but it is very short term as the oxidation will set in very soon.

Carbs and smaller items can be ultrasonic cleaned and this will also remove old fuel deposoits etc from them.

It depends what you want to use the bike for....show or runs....thats the choice really.

I think it will be going to Ireland with us in May if I do not sell it before hand.

Hey Andy

Does this mean we all get a go over there....please, please, please.

I must admit when I saw it in the flesh before Xmas I was very, very impressed :thumb2 :clap

A great credit to pure GSing

See you (and the bike) soon.

Steve

Yup, That looks the dogs dangelies. What I would like to know is how you get the rough cast alloy bits. engine ,box and drive shaft so clean or can it only be done on a rebuild. ? Well done and thanks for showing it to us. I also fancy doing a special, seen one or two that look promising:thumb

I'll get a gallon of ally cleaner for you when you come to pick up the forks. It brings the cases up like new and only costs £4.50 a gallon; just needs a few minutes effort with a small wire brush :thumb

Looks lovely - very nice.

Its a new ultra high temp spray coating. I will give it a go for a week or so and let you know if it is good. Needs to be "backed" on before the bike is run though or it will discolour as the pipes heat up so quick the first time it is started after application.

Is it that 'VHR' ceramic stuff, from the US?

Well done that man :bow

So glad I played a small part in encouraging you with that purchase, and to show on-going encouragement how's about I leave you with mine for a few weeks :thumb2

There's a ship off the Devon coast that needs a new anchour :D

Cheers Judge you were the cause of many 12+ hour shifts over the christmas hols......3 weeks worth in fact.:augie
And to avoid this:tears the missus had a lot of :rose :thumb

May seem like a dopey question but does anyone know of the supplier of the seat thats on there.?? Is it UK or US and has anyone seen similar. ( It was on the bike when I got it) Looking to go single seat for greater height.

The seat on yours?

That's a Corbin (should say on the little tabs which cover the headrest post sockets) and also on the bottom of the seat pan. Great seats but as you've found low as hell and not suited to standy-uppy riding. If it isn't a Corbin then someone has done a very good copy as it is exactly the same as mine (without the grippy material or yellow piping).

Their single is the same ride height so don't go for that either.

The Siebenrock one is the same height as the standard seat which is fine if you're up to about 6ft, if you are bigger than that then the only choice is to get something re-upholstered like what I did.

Looks like a corbin but can't find the exact same seat on the corbin site - this looks very similar...

Think a single seat would look great BTW :thumb
