Nice one Ross. Good to see another enthusiast set off on their journey! Fits some bits and pieces left over from mine so let me know if you need anything.

You can remove the ignition barrel from the housing without removing the top yolk and get a key cut to the lock at a decent locksmiths, one local to me charges £8 including the key :D. Or do as flip has said - drill a hole using s 4/5mm drill bit a few mm deep and hit a torq bit into the hole then undo.

thanks a lot for all advise received, while i have the switch off i should really check the wiring, i understand issues around partially or even broken wires due to cable ties to the headstock

need a p flap if you have one ?

so decided to have a closer look at the wiring from ignition switch check for breaks etc... and found this purple and grey joined
and it does not look factory to me. checked a few diagrams and it appears the grey is related to the rear light and the purple is for an accessory eg, radio on an RT? this wire has no purpose on the GS any one have a clue as to why these wires are joined?

Just guessing but maybe it was used as a switched power source? I'm probably wrong!!!!! My mechanical skills are legendarily bad. Is anything not working as it should!!!

at this stage dont know, i bought the bike as a non runner needed to replace ignition barrel and was just checking the wiring, found this and thought hmmm.....

It's simply a switched power feed added by someone as smelly old boots has said. Remove it or keep it for future use.
