A design thought: Dissimilar metals could set up a galvanic corrosion in the final drive 'hole' (sorry I don't know what the correct term is )or any other part that it touches, so would it be prudent to coat and insulate the contact points?
Edit: just noticed that you mentioned painting or perhaps coating it.

It will be coated with heat shrink wrap used for cables
