Newbie here I am afraid! Just bought a GS1150 -love it to bits but having read all 'words of warning' and not having much history with the bike I am thinking about having a dealer (BVM) do a major service.

The bikes done 38k since 2001 and is in reasonable order. Pads need changing and would do them myself but being ABS model these threads have worried me that I might b***** something up!

Also have no idea about last oil change, brake fluid change, plugs and tappet checks (my pals 3000 miler sounds less rattly than mine!) so probably worth doing before a trip to Croatia later in the year.

Will the dealer do all or any of the above . I have heard the major service should be about £250 -will this include any parts, consumables etc?

Welcome aboard Pylie..I'll leave the questions about your user name for another thread (but you should see the doc mate....they can cure them ya know ;) )

There's a full list of what's involved in each service on the BWM site itself.........

in fact, CLICK HERE and you should find it ;)

As for the charges on consumables, ask the dealer beforehand to clarify them.......they do seem to vary a lot.

PS don't ever buy tyres from your dealer........:nono :nono

FWIW, I think i'd do the same as you first service after I'd got the bike...then you can look around afterwards for subsequent servicing from an independant....unless anyone in your area pipes up quick and suggests something else?

Thanks for that - answers most of my questions. Will ring Mark at BVM and see what he can do.

Your right about tyres -I have two nails in the rear Tourance. Wasn't noticeable at first until I cleaned the bike and air was p****** out on a wet tyre. Its only lost a few pounds in a fortnight but needs to be changed to be certain. Can't find anyone locally to replace it fitted for less than £102. Have to keep looking....

BTW Came into this world with a crap surname ...might as well laugh along with it!

1) Give dealer bike

2) Give dealer credit card

3) Hide credit card bill from wife

Good luck :D

Cheers folks.. Credit card and BM dealer it is then -just hope its a more thorough than a car service!

If you are in Wiltshire, that shouldn't put you too far away from CW Motorcycles in Dorchester. They have a very good reputation.
