job done.:thumb2
on this shaft i have fitted a centre lube type u/j to the lower final drive joint.
although one CAN be fitted to the upper joint the grease nipple will foul the protruding gearbox shaft,so it has to be removed and blanked prior to fitting to the bike.
i prefer to fit a plain sealed u/j kit.

Nice job, Where did u get the splice from? Part numbers would be great for future

uj's

well done. used to sometimes do agricultural pto shafts, not the easiest of jobs. remember to tell the owner not to go daft with the grease gun, only needs 1 shot/yearly. ag ones run at 1000rpm and at wider angles. subject to a lot of abuse. does anyone know the revs of the bike ones?

At the revs that shaft is going and the joint angles (especially on the GSA), it's a surprise that ordinary UJs can cope.

I've changed car propshaft UJs, but considerably larger than a bike propshaft. In the old days they had circlips holding the bearings. These days the metal is staked with a special punch to hold the bearing caps in place. Difficult to rebuild accurately

Same here, done a few Hardy Spicer UJ's but these are small, staked in place and I'm not tooled up for them so I'd be better off sending them to Mikeyboy for a rebuild.

Mike cuts the old stakes out and dismantles. The new UJ cross is fitted and properly aligned with correct end float and then he centre pops the edges to retain.

This would be so much easier if the manufacturer had fitted circlips, but penny pinching and throw away products is the way of today.

Is Mike away at the moment?

Tried by a PM and also gave him a call with no reply ??
