Just come back from France after experiencing the worst weather northern Europe has experienced for years.

Good job I had just purchased a new suit..... Not!

For three days I rode with soggy underwear in my new bright yellow suit and having spent on top of the range gear - so I thought - I felt a bit of a plonker!

Described as "Storm Proof" it was as effective as a sieve. The natural folds in the suit as you get on the bike act as a bowl and rapidly fill with water. When full they then syphon into the front zip area, under the storm fold onto the "not waterproof" zip and head south on the inside of the suit between your other layers to pool where your rear end is.

Getting off your bike each day to find your manhhod shrivelled to the size of as pea was not pleasant and to think that I paid just over £100 to experience the condition was hilarious to my riding companions!

Has anyone else been daft enough to buy one of these and have they experienced the same problem?

I have asked the dealer to comment and their response will be interesting.

If thats the BMW rain suit I have had one for about 6 years now and its 100% waterproof. I've ridden in Europe in trechourous conditions and cloud bursts and its been perfect. I havn't used it for a couple of years now because my Rukka suit is also 100% water proof so its surplus when I use the Rukka

Sorry to 'hijack' this thread but can anyone recommend a good and sensibly priced rain suit.

Am planning to do a 5 day blast through France in August and given the amount of 'liquid sunshine' around this year, this could be a cunning purchase.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

These are brilliant - not cheap - but you get what you pay for. I went for the separates.

With your waterproof gear, ydo you wear synthetic briefs, not cotton ? I like Patagonia's. They dry out fast on stops just wearing them. Cotton will remain soggy for days when it's humid. That being said, I did put on the ProRain 3 one piece at the store and figured it would turn into a sauna anyways...

The suit I got from Lidl was £18.00 and kept has me as dry as the more expensive suits I have had previously - I bought one as a 'throwaway' item, but it turned out to be one of the best suits I've had - until I put a hole in it by falling off lol..

I just carry my goretex rain suit with me. I bought it a size larger so it fits over my gear. 100% waterproof, can wear as a jacket in the evenings instead of my bike jacket... fairly cheap... what else does one need!?!

To answer some of the points - the earlier suits are waterproof. This is the latest one and not good. The earlier one has a divers zip on it but it is heavier.

My dealer has given me a refund but said that I am the first to ask for one! My mate had one too on the same trip and his leaked as well so I do think it is a design fault with them.

I have the two piece BMW ralleye 3 but did not take the goretex liner as I expected it to be hot and the "new suit" would be more practical if we were caught out. One of he guys had a Rukka suit which kept him dry. The lidl option sounds good!

I have got my money back so will be looking at your suggestions.

Its in the name: PRO-Rain, you should have gotten one Against-rain.

Buy some surplus Ex Army Desert Camo Goretex Trousers and Jacket, works a treat, easy to put on, wear and stow and quite "bright" in the rain due to the desert camo. Wouldnt recommend the dark forrest DPM camo in rain.
