Well pleased with my new RT (new to me, it's a mint 05) but worried about salt messing it up.

I took all the plastics off, cleaned it really, really well, let it dry then plastered it in ACF50 and put its clothes back on.

So I've been out on the bike today, and now it's covered in flippin' salt and muck. Not worried about a bit of muck BUT don't want it corroding away.
Should I either:
a) Leave it
b) Hose it with cold water
c) Wash it properly (can't really be bothered with this option tbh)
d) Apply more ACF50

My thoughts are that seeing as the bike is dry, then it can't corrode. Is that right? So should I just leave it, then maybe hose it next time if it gets wet anyway?

Sounding like a pussy, but the bike has to last me!!

if you've done a proper job with the acf50, then all you need do is give the bike a quick hose down with cold water.

jobs a good un..:thumb

Yep, hose down with cold water.

I've done this for 4 years now on R12's.

I leave the acf and any gudge, but hose the bike down daily to remove loose grit and any salt.

clean and re apply ACF if water does not bead when rinsing off.

Starting October time after a clean and ACF application I wash only the plastics and screen ect, the undercarrage gets left Christmas when I clean and reapply, then left again till spring and saltless roads. So far the bike comes up corrosion free when cleaned. 56,000 miles now on her ridden daily in all weathers.

I've got an '05 RT. Always kept it coated with stuff similar to ACF50. Seems to be working well. Only minor area of corrosion I have found is some black paint flaking/rusting near a bolt hole on a steel sub-frame at the rear of the bike (seat/light cluster area)

Other than that, all good. You should be okay with a hose down.

Enjoy.

SubStan, you have only had the wee Red Rocket a few weeks and you are getting all paternal about her ? I hope you are enjoying it, mine is great !

Yeah, lovin' the bike.
Only been out a few times but done best part of 1,000 miles :)

All sat-nav and Autocommed up now....... Got a Cee Bailey screen to go on it too (Cheers Andy B).

Only thing I'm not liking is the servo assisted braking system; sound of the pump running bugs me and affects the tickover (always seem to need a brake on when stopped in traffic).

Can't wait for the weather to improve to get some sporty riding done :)

Thanks for the corrosion tips.
