I have message on my lap top telling me
My Kaspersky internet security runs out in 13 days
and to renew

I spose the computer is now 12 months old and the free trial has finished

to renew is £29
should I take it or look for a free one

Any comments:D

It's all a bit apples and oranges, however, I've been a happy Norton user for many years.

The cheapest place that my Brother found is a company called aria, or aria tech, or was it aria pc? Anyway, its based on the outskirts of Manchester and its the sort of place where the customers know exactly what they're doing, but the sell the internet security builder pack for under £20.

I will re- phrase that

are the free ones any good ?
If so any recommendations

No adults ... been along yet:D

Cheaper

Thats a lot cheaper that my Norton Antivirus.
I would take it to be honest..
I neglected my as they were asking for £50 give or take and completely forgot, then preferred getting a free online one (which was obviously rubbish) and ta-dammm, I'm all virus'ed up. gutted, I loved my laptop.
If I could turn back time I would have chose a different 'protection' whihc was cheaper, my mistake was not purchasing it when brought the laptop.
Will know for new one!:augie

Good Anti-Virus Software Available FREE

recommend

'Avast' - does auto updates everytime you boot up computer and keeps you alerted to dodgy websites. Runs nicely in the background. Been using it for many years.

'AVG Free' is good too. Used that for a number of years on other computers no problems. You need to manually update the virus definitions.

'Malwarebytes Anti malware' is a brilliant bit of kit. It scans in the background and routs out any malbuggers that have attached themselves to any programmes/webpage/links etc. Well worth having that anyway. No matter what antivirus you are using.

Read a number of reviews on these and they always come out well. As good as and often far better than the big names, Norton, Macafee etc. Though you can upgrade these freebee ones to include more functions - and pay some money. Never felt the need and I've been okay.

So an adult response is:

Download Avast or AVG Free for anti virus.

Download Malwarebytes for anti malware.

Keep your money for better things - e.g. subscribing to this informative forum

If you decide to go with any of the suggestions make sure you uninstall Kaspersky and restart your machine before going ahead with the new program. :beerjug:

AVG has been on my laptop for years and its doing a good job, just set it to auto update and you find it brings in updates regularly.
Good advise on getting rid of the old stuff first. Also you sometimes get additional anti virus if you bank on line. I find that AVG works ok with my bank AV as well. Good luck

microsofts security essesential is okay its very quite and seems to work very well, but in book you pay for what you get

i use norton NIS but its not free i belive if you look hard enough you prob get it for 25 quid for 3 comps

I was expecting loadsa answers, there normally are, from people more qualified than me :augie

I run Avast anti virus - make sure you go into the settings & change the language from 'English' to 'Pirate' :pirate

Zone Alarm firewall

Also Malware bytes

You can get a 3 PC one year licence for Kaspersky for £12.20 at Amazon.

At just over £4 a year for each of the three pcs that isn't too bad for a pretty good AV and two way Firewall solution. But not as good as the same thing free from Barclays when I ran my mother's current account.

I use Kaspersky on my laptop and MS Security Essentials on a notebook. Both double checked with Malwarebytes from time to time.
