Hope somebody can help here please . I need to replace both small end bushes on my 250 split single . Replacing the bushes is not the problem ; it`s the reaming to 18 plus 0.01mm . I would like to do this without removing the engine . I`ve read many tomes on the web suggesting never to use an adjustable hand reamer . I now it would be difficult to ensure that the reamer is square but would it be possible to insert the reamer fully into the small end bush & increase the size whist simultaneously rotating the reamer ( does this sound b*ll*cks ) .

Any advice would be appreciated .

Cheers

Harry

Can't see the problem with an adjustable reamer used correctly. Plenty of rags stuffed into the crankcase to stop any swarf going where it shouldn't go and lots of lube. Use the old bush to gauge when the reamer is getting near to the required size.

Thanks Smug for your reply . That`s my problem , what is the correct way to use the reamer ?

Cheers

Harry

You won't get that tolerance to be held by hand...end of.

Adjustable reamers are pretty crap by virtue that they move. A fixed reamer will hold size time after time. If you want to cut corners by leaving the motor in situ then be prepared for the consequences.
