Hi, the previously helicoiled crankcase stud on my r80 g/s 1987 has pulled out!! what are my options? can i helicoil with an m12 then helicoil with the m10? also where does the longer 297mm bolt go.mine seem to have been mixed up and one cut down!! was trying to depart on holiday on the bike this wk but him upstairs has other ideas any enlightenment gratefully received, cheers

BMW sell an extended helicoil for the job but you need a jig to do it properly. A standard helicoil will block the oilway so you need some proper advice from an expert - Get in touch with Steve Scriminger at www.scriminger.co.uk

Dan at Cycleworks sells a jig for this repair. I'm not suggesting you buy one but the info on his site helps you understand what you're up against http://www.cycleworks.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=29_33_51&products_id=21

BTW

Dan at Cycleworks is a top bloke to deal with. If you need any special tools he's the man to see www.cycleworks.net

Dan will hire the rigs, and he has two set ups , one for a standard helicoil, and another for a larger timesert insert which replaces a pulled helicoil.

Top bloke, as Rob says.

I have done these before and not used a Gig, if your careful ?you may not need one but you do need the specific coil whick has a couple of its treads kinked at one point to pass oil etc,There red in colour...

Use a wurth timesert and then drill out the hole where the oil way is located :thumb
