So my bike went in this AM for a software wipe and re-programme to try curing the pulsing issue in 4th... no change at all :(

It does feel like it comes from the engine side of things and in discussion with the guy's there, they said you can get different clutch baskets with different gear sizes so you can set up correct lash?... so thinking about this, its where I’ve suggested the problem may be in the past as it feels to me to come from the front of the engine....

Anyone had a replacement clutch basket and it’s cured or induced a change in how the bike drives?

Which bike as my 1250 still does the same , don't worry about it as some say , they all do that.

beaver has same as mine 2017 GS exclusive, goldilocks bike, mine pulses a tad, but told it is normal, from a very good source, maybe it is in my head as I will be told but since I have added the af-xieds, most things seem to be quietening down slowly but surely.

yes, I know they all do it to some extent... been on 4 LC's and every one did it... but my last bike (15 plate) got that bad, in the end it had to go PX. They knew I was complaining about it, but took it anyway, so thinking they do actualy know how to fix it?... but it was that bad I'd not of sold it private.... Just don't want this one to go the same way.

someone somewhere must of fixed it?.. interesting about the af-xieds it its made a change... I know people say its fueling, but I'm thinking it's mechanical myself?

Most noticed at 2400 rpm in 4th. Resonance from the drive shaft.

As has been discussed to death on countless threads before it is engine speed related, some bikes do it in 3rd or 5th as well to a lesser degree, it always seems to be in the 2750 to 3750 rpm range. No one has managed to come up with a definite cause.

Paranoia , ignore it and ride the bugger till the wheels fall off (or collapse) One wheel is enough.....

Think I might push for them to look at the amount of lash on the clutch and a new clutch basket if excessive (or tight?)... its mechanical for sure... I've got my money on that TBH... its something that changes bike to bike... new basket and bearing.... or even a balanced unit?
strange how they make them in a few sizes! you'd expect that area to be consistant as its all in the same casting and machined at the same time?

It's been reported that pre-LC boxers do it too. They don't have clutch baskets. IMHO it's two vibration sources with very close frequencies. The sort of noise you'd hear from a multi-engined Ww2 bomber sometimes.

Is it 4th under load or cruising

its 4th on slight load2.5k to 3.5k area...

yes.. you could be right with the frequencies... but on my last bike within 1000 mile trip to Irealand, it appeared and got that bad I had to sell!... so something brings it on for sure

Exactly what happened with my '14 bike, got so intrusive and getting worse I thought the gearbox would fail.
Still get it to a much lesser degree that I can live with on my '17 bike.

Same with me.. just dont want this one to go bad like the last. So trying a few things to find it

My current '17 bike didn't start doing it till 12000mls, now at 27,000mls and it hasn't got any worse. I had the FD/shaft splines greased at the 6000ml service so not that.
