Are Paris Dakar's marked as such on the V5? I thought that it was a dealer fitted kit available for the G/S? How would you know if the kit was fitted by a dealer rather than added later?!

In addition - I've since had a good look at G/S Paris Dakar prices - they seem to be hitting somewhere between 10 - 15K at the moment for minters and as such the offer of a good bike at 7.5K would seem pretty good by comparison - even if it is still a horrible old nasty airhead![]()

I hear the torque action on the rear swing arm can give some interesting riding characteristics. So, need to ride one to see if I can acquire the taste...if so, I think I am going to go for it.
A problem that seems to exist in print and passed on by word of mouth by people that haven't actually ridden an old BMW and can't cope without a gear indicator to know which gear they're in.
You'll notice it for the first 5 minutes and then the "problem" just disappears and you'll never give it a second thought ever again.

The thread got me thinking about the factory Paris Dakars and the dealer fit kits. I found this article which seems to offer an explanation as to how to identify the provenance of a G/S Paris Dakar.

Some of that information is absolute double bollox.![]()
