.....Not ridden bike for a couple of months(new house and all that) it has been hooked upto an optimate....started it this morning to join Howie and the lads no worries....felt a little strangled but just went gently into Ripon (3Miles) due to ice.....got to Ripon and not happy with the rev's on the bike..not enough for the wrist action!!(I am not very technical as can be seen)...dismounted and the rear most section of the catayltic converter ie nearest the back wheel was glowing red!!!!..i suspect that due to where it is kept mice may well have climed into the exhaust and blocked it!!??!!...Is this likley is it more sinister than that and if it is the above should I dismantle exhaust disconnect converter to try and free it or are there any other sensible considerations..........does not appear to be any damage caused it is a standard GSA 2002 with 29k FBMWSH thanks for any advice offered:confused:

If the bike was running rough, and only really running properly at full throttle, I would be willing to bet proper money that your throttle cable has become unseated. Especially if you have had the tank off.

Find the throttle cables, and find where they seat in the adjusters beside the throttle bodies. Check that the cable is not caught on top of the adjuster. If it is, just drop it into the adjuster. It is probably the right-hand throttle cable, but check both of them.

What happens when one of these cables is unseated is that the mixture goes to pot, and starts to run very hot. So your pipes can end up a very pretty cherry red.

HTH,

David

...........cheers David I did have tank off a couple of weeks ago to put optimate on...I will check this ,I am living and learning!:)

Your cables (most commonly the RHS) should be seated like this...

...not like this...

If one cable was unseated, the bike would barely run at low throttle settings, though - when it happened to me it ran extremely roughly - I wouldn't have described it as 'a little strangled', more like 'frighteningly inbalanced'...

When it happened to me, I described as "worringly expensive-sounding". I cannot tell you how relieved I was when some kind souls on the GS list and Adventure Rider pointed out the cable issue.

If you can plug the charger into the accessory socket, does that mean that the socket is live all the time?
Mike.

.................:D :D :D :D ...thankyou as the pictures showed it was exactly as you said the rhs little tinker...much obliged and humble apologies for the mice theory!!!!now running great:moped:
