Good evening,
I have a Pyramid rear hugger fitted to my 1200GS, and when I got home on Sunday, the mudguard part had gone AWOL? It had fractured just in front of the bolts, and still had a small piece of placcy firmly bolted to the stainless bracket.

I purchasd the bike with this hugger, and I know it's less than a year old, but have no receipt!

I tried to e-mail Pyramid 3 times about the missing part - NO REPLY!

This piece of tinny tat cost £125, I think Pyramid should be bothered!
The expensive bit is still on the bike doing nothing to protect my Technoflex.

Has anyone had a similar thing happen, and did they get a replacement blade from Pyramid?

Apart from that, loving the GS experience - Great bike!

Me too

I had two break in the same place and gave up in the end, just an expensive bit old tat if you ask me.

Yes i have had the same as my 3rd one broke 2 weeks ago and wont be replacing it with the same. Going to try and make a mold from the last one and then make a fibre glass one from that.

Had one on 07gs, I bought It new lasted all of 4months befor it split from the bracket:( full refund from pyramid.

my girlfriend has had 2 break on her adventure, third one fitted last week, will see how long that one lasts.
on another note the carbon fibre one on mine, (dunno what make it is) has been fine for the 13,000 miles i've had my adventure.

It seems the dealer I bought the GS off has had a bit more luck than me getting hold of Pyramid. Replacement part in stronger fibreglass on it's way FOC.

So I would hound Pyramid for the new upgraded mudguard, even if it's out of warranty - Because they know they are crap & will break.

Thanks for your help!

Bought, 1 when I first got the GSA, had them on most of my bikes. 2 months later it snapped off.
Pyramid sent me a replacement after a little cajoling and the mention of this site!:thumb

IMHO the Pyramid hugger is a cheap nasty piece of tat which you're better off without - there are plenty of far better solutions available. My preference is a BestRest Spraystopper, but I believe others rate something similar available from Nippy Norman.

I agree! My first opinion was it came from Halfords & would look more at home on a D plate Nova! When it broke, I was going to take it off & weigh in the tin!

Until I found out the price - £125 - What a rip off!

I did notice the Bestrest Spraystopper myself, and thought it looked more practical & stylish.

Just noted that my Pyramid of about 2-3 months old has fractured. Also rubs against the brake pipe - near the banjo bolt. If it was left in place for much longer it may damage the brake pipe!:eek

It also has two little rubber grommets that rub on the FD (swingarm) and these have rubbed through the paint already.

It will be going back to the manufacturer where I bought it.

I've followed lots of hugger threads here and long ago reached the conclusion, based on members experience and suppliers advertisments, that no hugger currently offered for sale was any use. Most advertisers gave long lists of tyres that didn't fit their overpriced bits of plastic and many posters told tales of paint damage and breakages. As a matter of style I think that huggers look like dreadful crotch rocket accessories but if they worked I'd tolerate one. I eventually fitted an expensive bit of plastic from Wunderlich (similar to NN's MudSling) which has kept mud and rain off my boots and rear suspension for the last two years. If you really want a hugger then buy a second-hand crap-catcher and glue a couple of front mudguard extenders to it. It will look awful but won't foul your tyres or paintwork. It might even do some good.

Other than a corroding bracket, I cant say much is wrong with the Nippy Normans one on my GS (ESA model), and it was less then £100.

I have to say the Ilmberger carbon hugger I had on my F800ST was superb, well made and had a fantastic finish, pity about the cost though!

Same thing happened to me. Bought the bike with the hugger fitted as an extra. It fell off about 4 months later. Dealer is sorting it out with Pyramid about a refund. In the mean time I have replaced it with the one that "theop"

It took the dealer to get my replacement - Pyramid still tried to charge him £112 for it, but settled for postage costs in the end.

The new one is made of fibreglass, and does seem stronger. If it lasts through the winter I will be happy.

just had a look at my girlfriends latest one, it is made of fibreglass as well, the other 2 were not.
maybe they have changed them because of the breakages. It's still on there even after a couple of hours off road on saturday so hopefully is a lot stonger than previous ones:thumb2

Beware - they do a carbon LOOK-ALIKE as well.:( That.s what mine was......

Glass fibre for sure Old Croc! Turn it upside down - and it looks like something I made at school in 1982.
