Advice from those who have gone before or who live there please...:rob

SWMBO and I are planning a week or so in the Pyrenees this summer - late July/early August to be precise. The fact that this is the first couple of weeks of the UK school hols (and probably the French/Spanish as well) is no coincidence as I'm constained by them but it could mean that finding a room without pre-booking is difficult - not good if you want to keep your plans "fluid".

Has anyone else here "winged it" at busy times? How did you get on?

Cheers, Martyn :thumb2

We have a B&B in the Hautes-Pyrenees and in our experience July and August are busy periods but for just the two of you it would probably be possible to wing it but if you are looking for Bike safe parking as well, that might be a bit harder to find.

Use google search . There are loads of places to choose from and in our experience best to prebook a couple down there in different locations and base yourself in each for a few nights.It takes the hassle out of worrying when you get there. Shouldnt be a problem finding places en route.

My father and I ended up there (france and spain) the summer before last with no bookings... never had a problem though we were happy to camp... not sure if that is an option for you.

Although that is the busiest time you could pick, we've done it lots of times and never had a problem.
If you want to be sure (to be sure :aidan )
~ start looking for a hotel at 5p.m. - no later.
or best of all;
~ stay in "Logis De France" hotels (always my first choice anyhow) and before you check out from one - get THEM to book you into the next. :thumb
We'd suss road routes and hotel choices, from the comfort of our room, the evening before moving on.

Enjoy! (wish i was going this year. :tears )
