My bro and I are off this evening to the Pyrenees for 10 days

Anyone know of any good off road trails on either the French or Spanish side?

I only got back on Saturday after 4 days trail riding and rough camping around the "Ripolles" area. We were taking part in an Army run "Pyrenees Up" which is a nav ex set up by the Vince brothers. It's on the Spanish side and over to the east so it will be a bit of a trek. Absolutely awesome trails and roads:thumb2 That said... the 260 which runs from west to east (pamplona or jaca - perpignon, IIRC) looks an awesome road and I plan to ride it this summer on my way back from Italy. I shouldn't imagine you'd have too many problems picking up a local map anywhere in the pyrenees area and finding some trails.

I was on a Xchal and found the going very mixed. Everything from tarmac/Gravel/stoney tracks through to very muddy slippy tracks, the only terrain I didn't ride on was sand. I don't know what bike your riding or your ability, but there where definately tracks that I wouldn't have liked to have riden on a GS. And be aware that if using a Spanish map that the white "trails" could be anything from concrete/tarmac to mud/stoney tracks. Likewise black trails can be very good going or very sh1tty. Only getting to it will enlighten you.:augie

Brilliant - thanks Stu. I have a 1200GSA (hence I'm on here) but have just recently picked up a KTM 690 EnduroR which I'm taking for its first bit of dirty fun.

I've done a few days now with Mr. Pavey's crew in deepest Wales, so have done some off-road but I'm fairly new to being off tarmac. We were hoping to find some fairly easy trails to get the confidence in and go from there.

I know the Ripoll area and the 260 well as we took the GS's down last spring for a blast along there. It was unbelievable - the whole way along!

Thanks for the tips, we'll get down there, get a map and see where we end up!

If you want some road books, BamBam and I have just bought some road books from these guys "VIBRACTION" http://pagesperso-orange.fr/vibraction/espagne/rb_1.htm the road books seem expensive but it has all the information in it forn hotels, campsites etc.

The website also has diagrammatic maps of the routes which may help you :bounce1

Just got back from following there route. well 1000kms of it. all i can say is fantastic, i did it on a ktm 525 but 90% of the route could be done on the larger gsers. just take it easy on the gravel.

Hi, we're thinking of doing this trip on an 800 Adventure and a 1200 GS...do you think that's do-able, and what time of year was your trip.
Cheers
