Coming into force tomorrow, Queenslands very own LAMS. To any owners of a F650gs twin in the sunshine state check your new rego sticker (tax disc) they have classified us as LAMS approved.I spent some time today down at the local transport office getting mine sorted. They had some trouble understanding what I was on about but with aid of a BMW brochure and with the help of a "technical guy" from the workshop it finally penetrated some pretty thick skulls. They have the twin on the computer as under 660cc and below the permitted power to weight ratio. This could cause a few problems if you are selling or making a claim with insurance. Just been informed that a new sticker will be issued in about 10 days ( just in time for Christmas).
Ride safe.

put "LAMS queensland" into google and get ....

• The Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme (LAMS)
The introduction of LAMS means safer bikes for novice riders and consistency across
the eastern states. LAMS will replace the previous 250mL engine capacity
requirement for RE or restricted motorcycle licence holders. It means a combined
power-to-weight ratio and engine capacity restriction will apply. This will specifically
restrict some of the 250ml motorcycles on the market that are very powerful and
unsuitable for novice riders.
The power-to-weight ratio is a comparison of the engine output to the weight of the
bike. It is a measure of the motorcycle’s performance. LAMS restricts novice riders to
motorcycles with a power-to-weight ratio that does not exceed 150kW/t and an
engine capacity that does not exceed 660mL. The LAMS approved motorcycles will
have slower acceleration than other higher performance bikes and therefore will be
safer for novice riders to handle.
A list of LAMS approved motorcycles will be available from the Queensland Transport
website www.transport.qld.gov.au closer to the implementation of LAMS on 1 July
2009.

Nothing to do with younger (and therefore more attractive) sheep then?:augie

Sorry.

Sorry for the confusion, did'nt think anyone outside the state would be interested.

i think that's the Foster's and bbq factor...:D

I think you poms are the only ones that drink Fosters. I don't know anyone here that does. I remember when I was in England I went to the pub with my cousins and couldn't beleive that they drank Fosters.

I think LAMS is in most states in Australia now. There are some variations in ACT it is straight power to weight doesn't matter about cc's. In NSW it has a max cc's I think about 660.
