Quest 1 or Quest 2?

Hi,

I've been a user of a Quest 1 unit for about a year and a half, very happy with it, meets all of my needs/demands, not least the fact that it is battery powered, Garmin, and nicely pocket sized.

However having just had the damn thing stolen from my car, i'm now in the market to replace it.

I've not heard a massive amount of info regarding the newer Quest 2 unit, other than more memory, and was wondering if you guys could give me some pro's and cons between Quest 1 and Quest 2. Do i stick with what i know, or do i take this opportunity to move up the ladder? (assuming newer = moving up) :nenau

(Or of course if you think there is a better unit for similar price, i'd be interested there too. Trying to stay open minded, but swayed by the great service I enjoyed from my Quest 1 unit.)

Thanks in advance for your responses.... :bow

There's been quite a discussion about the Quest 2 and it's re-draw speed on here (the speed at which the map moves as you ride / drive across it). I haven't heard any reports that this has been improved yet. If this is the case then you are much better off sticking with the Quest 1.

If you want to upgrade there is the new model for Bike / Car use called the Nuvi.

2610?

I've just been looking at GPSW and i can pick up a new 2610 for less than a Quest 1, (appx £250) whereas the 2720 is right up at £590 still.

On a value for money basis, and bearing in mind my budgest was originally looking at Q1 or Q2 (so up to appx £350) what's popular opinion regarding a Quest 1 or a 2610?

Think after reading the other threads i've opted out of the Quest 2 already... so very much interested in opinions of Quest 1 versus 2610.

Cheers again guys

The 2610 has been superseeded in the Garmin product range. there are plenty of people on here that have them and are very happy with them, however the fact remains that they are now old models.

You will find that the 2610 has very limited memory for things like tracking compared to your old Quest. If this is importamt to you then sterr clear I'm afraid.

IMHO

I've both the Quest 1 and the 2610. The Quest is the most used as it is the most flexible and portable. The 2610 will take residence in the 4 wheeler.

I liked my old Quest 1 very much. But I also like the 2610 that I've ended up with - long story and involves 2x Quest 2's. :nono

Usual pros and cons that you already know about....screen size, touch screen vs buttons, memory, portability, maps & memory etc...

Nothing really in it otherwise. In your shoes I'd probably go for another Q1 if only so you don't have to change the bike mount :)

Appreciation

Thanks everyone.... as usual, you've all been very helpful...

Clearly the Quest 2 was a no no, and even though popular opinion seems to be the Quest 1 is a better buy over the 2610, i've gone for the 2610 anyway.

(Purely because 90% of my use is in car, only 10% of it's use is likely to be on the bike)

But thanks guys.. some useful info. :clap
